[#2477167]

Just wondered if how many people ride the dog and monkey clipped in? My mate stands by them but with the mud at the mo and the sketchy corners are they a accident waiting to happen ? Also does anyone ride crank bros mallets that could give me so feedback? They appear to be a decent middle ground

no worries being clipped in on Cannock nothing technical apart from the black rock garden at the end of the monkey but can take the red route

think it's more about what's in your head than what's on your feet

Hi mate rode Cannock on spds weekend before last and afan last weekend( birthday you see, multi pass from mrs W!) No issues at all, my first spin at cannock was even a demo on new to me bikes all done on spds you can always unclip once you are used to them!

I use shimano dx spds just excellent very tough and have had no looking after apart front a hose off and some gt85 can't speak highly enough of them even in heavy heavy mud. Never used crank bros sorry mate! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a set of old mallets that I got hoping I could use them clipped in or with trainers for nipping to the shop etc. You can't unless you are happy with a hard lump pressing into the ball of your foot. They are a nice big platform to aim at though if you are/become unclipped. I found them most useful restarting up tricky climbs where I could just stamp on the pedal anywhere and my foot would stick, then clip in when I had some momentum.

think it's more about what's in your head than what's on your feet

That as well ๐Ÿ™‚

I have been riding with clips for years around trail centres, and I actually loose confidence if not clipped in, unless you are into full on downhill, clips are great for the trails.

there isn't anywhere you can't ride clipped in, the same as there isn't anywhere you can't ride flats, it's all about experience, the only thing i would say is if you have never ridden spds maybe it would be best to ride a trail you know well untill you get used to unclipping and clipping back in

Clipped in for everything, even going to the shops.

Clip in for everything, I've never had the problem of my SPDs clogging up even riding through the bog like terrain of cannock.

I never ride Cannock in anything other than Mallets and clipped in. Used them since around early 2000's and love them.

PS did the shifters arrive OK?
