what are the options? the xtr platform ones look nice with large area/platform for the feet but £100!!!
any other options? ( i dont do crank bros)

Shimano are bringing out some much cheaper ones soon, so hold your fire if you want actual SPDs.

Or also consider Time Freeride pedals. I use them and have no complaints.

oh yeah they're Time Zs aren't they, and they do the Freeride and Control - which I think one is cast and one CNCed - or something like that.

Shimano M545, they have a large platform, about £50. I like them.
Or the Shimano M424 are the cheaper version (about £30), they have a plastic platform.

What are the Shimano ones (m647 DX or M424 etc) like to use not clipped in?

IIRC the new Deore group have a set of platform pedals, or did i dream that?
