has anyone used these?:

any good?

i've found that shimano 'wide' fitting shoes are very comfy, i can't find any of the mountain style shoes (M087W), but i can find plenty of the road style shoes (R087W) - i thought maybe these funky cleats would stop me ruining my kitchen lino...?

No, the plastic part will not fit into a mtb show and on a road shoe they aren't strong/long/deep enough to stop the metal cleat marking a floor.

It's the shoes that make the difference.

Perhaps try a brand other than Shimano, which are very narrow? I believe Northwave are good for wide feet? I've narrow feet so cannot help too much, but I would say you are best getting a shoe which fits your.

well, i've got a couple of pairs of northwave shoes - and i'm mostly impressed. But in terms of comfort, shimano wide are in a different league.

size?

43, ... or was it 44? - i honestly can't remember.

Specialized shoes are generally realtively wide. I us the BG Expert and the cleat hardly protrudes (if at all) so walking is fine. The sole is reinforced with carbon so pretty stiff, but the outsole is a chunky non-slippy rubber, so they're good for walking round in. Highly rate them.

(also as an aside, i highly rate the different spesh insoles)

bontrager mtb shoes are also relatively wide fitting.

[edit] for reference - my shimano road shoes are 43 wides...

shimano has stopped making those.. as picture at the top in the OP

they are SPD-Road cleats - but as above now defunct.

better of with some of Shimano touring shoes and standard SPD - I use these (albiet Time ATAC) on my road bike

the SPD touring shoes and pedal fit together:

Pedal Ultegra:

Shoes:

They do a cheaper version of both shoes and pedals. Specialized also make some similar shoes - bit wider/bigger fit

specialzied shoes are wide or alternatively sidi do a wide fit too, their standard is narrow. Avoid diadora too if you have wide feet.
