I'm after a short break (4days, possibly long weekend) in Spain on my own. I've looked at various sites and none appear flexible enough on this. I'm looking to go in April/May or June and would need bike hire. Anyone got any recommendations? Many thanks

switchbacks in bubion in southern spain will be ok for that, and they can hire you a bike - but the bike may be a bit 'tired'.

I've been with Pure Mountains a few times.
I can highly recommend them.
Alway went on my own and found their set up perfect, (often if not busy getting a whole on suite room to myself)

Had a long weekend with http://www.ridesierranevada.com/Welcome-Mountain-Biking-Sierra-Nevada.htm last year and if was great. Lovely people (Shaun and csilla) great guiding, decent uplift service, fantastic and varied trails, great local food, very cheap beer, on site spanering and free tool usage, friendly village with a real relaxed feel about it.

Edit - oh and they do hire bikes (can't remember the brand although iirc they were quite decent)

Arrive on Friday morning, leave Monday evening and you can have 4 days of fully guided biking paying for just 3 nights accommodation.
As we are just 20 minutes from the airport we´ll collect you and have you on the trails just an hour after arrival.
Excellent singletrack rides with plenty of bus uplift during the day & lively après-bike on the coast at night.

Giant Trance 2 is our choice for the bike fleet.
