SPAM WINTER CHALLENGE – SUNDAY 2 JANUARY – Page 2 – Bike Forum

The weather's warming up so the tracks should be softening. This is the biggest mountain bike event held annually on Salisbury Plain, attracting around 1000 riders, it remains popular with leisure riders and racers alike. The event offers three courses of 50km, 35km and 25km. All riders of all abilities are welcome and the 25km is suitable for youngsters. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult. Although the 50km and 35km routes do not have the same technical sections that SPAM events offer in the warmer months, the distance at this time of year shoud prove challenge enough! The event is sponsored by Mule Bar and will be catered by the Drop Off Cafe Local bike shops, Bertie Maffoons (Marlborough) and Bikes n Boards (Devizes) will be on hand for sales and maintenance. Full medical assistance will be on standby and the event is supported by Raynet mobile communications and our own volunteer marshals. 2hr 42 on the singlespeed...could have done without that long road stretch as I was spinning like a mentalist and getting nowhere fast, but 'twas my own fault I guess 🙂 Enjoyable ride I think if you go into it understanding that most of the South is a mudbath this time of year, and at least this was rideable.
