Hi,
I've just got hold of a set of 29er dt Swiss x1700 2015 wheels. I'm looking to put a new 10speed xt cassette onto them and wondered if I need to include a spacer for them to work properly?

Nope, unless they were a weird OE build, but I'm still going with no.
