An earlier post from oneoneoneone reminded me I was going to try to find out other southampton STWers and try to get a group ride going.
In fact I think I've probably chatted with WCA about the big bike bash at LW at some point over the summer. (I was on a black charge duster...)
Getting a regular group for night rides would be good as I haven't done it before and would think solo might be a bit dodgy (chavs/angry badgers etc...)
Hopefully we can get something sorted in the next 3 weeks or so before I jet off on hols....
Southampton lad - 31, own car, seeks regular ride....
childish titters
theres all sorts of things like that on gumtree...
whats GSOH?
GSOH: great sex offered happily?
Got Secluded Own House?
DT78 drop me a mail from my profile and we can sort something out
juan - that would be you in the Asda carpark on the night shift then?
i have mailed you on your "other" email addy.
ill be up for this soon (when im better an my bikes built)
i have also had a chat to WCA but have never meet him as my life has been all over the place with work ATM
i have seen a "nice" bike locked up at asda in totton once or twice making me think that people must ride around here!!
Myself & gilfriend live in Southampton.
Mostly ride DH, but we have little bikes for more normal riding. Is there anything left at Lordswood these days? I had heard it has all been ripped down?

*Choking on my tea*
I have no idea what you are talking about... Honest it might even have been someone else.
Main jump spot is no more. Plenty of other stuff to play on. I actually think it's the best it has been for the 5-6 years I've been riding there. Can't complain really as it's only 15mins from home. I'll let this thread run for a bit to see interest and then try to sort something.

i'm local but not sure i wanna meet in the woods at night after that thread title!! ๐
I too live in the fair land of Southampton and am up for a spot of riding.
I can also claim not only to have met the famous WCA but to have been on a ride with him! Nice chap.
Anyway, I prefer the New Forest to Lordswood, partly because I'm rubbish at gnarly stuff and partly because I like to go somewhere and then come back rather than go round in a small area. But Lordswood is fun.

I'm local, several friends in southampton area all ride too. I ride a short route in Bishopstoke occasionally, as well as a loop round winchester.
Al
hello mate we tend to go for a spin in lordswood and qe as well if your about at the w/e's
i'm local, if theres a regular night ride round here i'd be up for it as solo night rides give me the heeby geebies
wow there are loads of us!!
one from the top of my head I can count 16 and that is without including the Univeristy mtb club.
Wow, seems like somethings happening here. count me in.
Yep another Southampton person here. I to have met WCA once when he was kind enough to give me some of his visitors parking permits for here around the general.
also there's NewForce.org.uk
Weekly night rides Thursdays from Totton and Winchester
+ weekend rides and other odd ride trips too
WCA rides with the Winchester lot on Occasion I think
Check the board or PM me if anybody want any details
Ooo I am happy to have found this thread! I am moving to Eastleigh from Manchester in a couple of weeks and so would be happy to meet up with people for some riding... I am currently rather unfit though.

Just in from a ride round the NF - hythe/beaulieu road area. It's riding nicely just now isn't it? (apart from the odd bog of course)
Seems there's plenty about (those newforce rides used to get up to 15/20 sometimes a year or three ago - 29erKeith, are you well-balanced Keith? Hello (from Mike; slow bloke, used to turn up occasionally on a Bullit!)
I usually nightride with a mate but we're a bit variable week to week on days & times. We live up Romsey way, if anyone's local&desperate&flexible & can't get to the "southern end". (there's a group that rides from Nomansland that I met once in the summer - I assume they ride year-round but I don't know 'em. Were friendly & offered me to join in but they were just a bit too early for me to catch. Can't remember the day or time now though)
looks like some thing is happening!!
scaredypants, nope I'm slightly less balanced Keith ๐
I've been riding with 'em for a few years now. The other Keith, Ash and few of the others have been at it much longer
We're usually doing 20-30 miles on a Thursday night depending on route and conditions, leaning more on 20 during the winter as it the forest gets boggy
doing our best to keep the rides interesting and varied
always good fun with a few beers/ciders along the way
- I did wonder how he'd fit on a 29er ๐The other Keith
gets boggy, you say ? I seem to remember Ash could take you through a bog AND a sandpit on every ride, summer or winter
ok i just did a quick solo around lordswood tonight and spotted about 4 or so bike lights..riding up the track going parallel with M27
they would have seen my lights too, anyone on here?
Another Lordswood rider here - though not so much at night (usually burning the midnight oil in the university library... as I am now).
Man I miss riding in Lordswood! Used to love my blasts around there on a Wednesday afternoon!
noteeth, is that the Uni or the Dimstitute? ๐
I'm occasionally not a million miles from Soton at the weekend, country place is up in the Test Valley area, so could make it down for a ride sometime. Would love to see what Lordswood is like now!
noteeth, is that the Uni or the Dimstitute?
The proper 'un - Archaeology Department. STW is currently distracting me from reading about 3000 PDFs. ๐
I'm an exile from Somerset (and latterly Bristol), and I didn't know what to expect from the place - but I really enjoy the trail network in Lordswood. There's some ace singletrack and it drains nicely (compared to Mendip!). It's kept me sane these past couple of years, for sure.
Ah, a po****cher? Tell me, Clowns and Jesters - Still the same "special" place? Happy days...!
Pots... nah - flint tools, ice ages and human evolution more my thing.
Jesters - been in there once... eau de vomit. Thank gawd I'm an elderly postgrad. ๐
Right all.
im going for a ride tomorrow. (Monday) i dont have a clue where im going as i have never been riding round here before.
please mail me (in profile) if you would like to join me. was think about 18.30ish i could meet people if you want to come.
Sorry but BUMP!! as im scared of the dark and riding on my own
come on oneoneoneone you'll be find, if you venture otu on a monday/tuesay you might even bump into people
Right, i went for a ride and it was the dullest ride i have ever been on!
went up to the new forest and had a cycle about and found zero. any way im off out again tonight try some where else today.
any one??
Out tonight for our group's regular bimble, tonight from Braishfield. Unlikely to be any heart stopping singletrack though
Jealous, I moved away from Southampton this year and haven't been to Lordswood since. I used to go early morning if I was riding solo and it was pretty safe.
Cant do evenings this week.
Be up for something at W/E if there is any interest?
Dependent on weather I was thinking about a lordswood night run this thurs evening. Happy to take you out and about if you want, the route is a bit tech in the dark - mostly singletrack, pretty short, probably an hour or so. (can link more in if we're not tired....)
Let me know if anyone is interested, suggest meeting at the municipal golf clubhouse (so people can park) at 7pm.
(apologies for not responding on my own thread I've had manflu....)
Dt ill be up for that. Can you put a link to the golf course please
Here you go - it's just off the avenue.

Meet up by golf clubhouse itself (probably be closed) I'll most likely be on my black charge duster.
Hope you've got decent lights ๐
'fraid the Bontrager has been decommissioned for some TLC. But I'll be back out there again, soon(ish).

Sounds good to me, I look forward to getting out at some point.
