[#990328]

An earlier post from oneoneoneone reminded me I was going to try to find out other southampton STWers and try to get a group ride going.

In fact I think I've probably chatted with WCA about the big bike bash at LW at some point over the summer. (I was on a black charge duster...)

Getting a regular group for night rides would be good as I haven't done it before and would think solo might be a bit dodgy (chavs/angry badgers etc...)

Hopefully we can get something sorted in the next 3 weeks or so before I jet off on hols....

Myself & gilfriend live in Southampton.

Mostly ride DH, but we have little bikes for more normal riding. Is there anything left at Lordswood these days? I had heard it has all been ripped down?

Main jump spot is no more. Plenty of other stuff to play on. I actually think it's the best it has been for the 5-6 years I've been riding there. Can't complain really as it's only 15mins from home. I'll let this thread run for a bit to see interest and then try to sort something.

I too live in the fair land of Southampton and am up for a spot of riding.
I can also claim not only to have met the famous WCA but to have been on a ride with him! Nice chap.
Anyway, I prefer the New Forest to Lordswood, partly because I'm rubbish at gnarly stuff and partly because I like to go somewhere and then come back rather than go round in a small area. But Lordswood is fun.

I'm local, several friends in southampton area all ride too. I ride a short route in Bishopstoke occasionally, as well as a loop round winchester.

Yep another Southampton person here. I to have met WCA once when he was kind enough to give me some of his visitors parking permits for here around the general.

Ooo I am happy to have found this thread! I am moving to Eastleigh from Manchester in a couple of weeks and so would be happy to meet up with people for some riding... I am currently rather unfit though.

Just in from a ride round the NF - hythe/beaulieu road area. It's riding nicely just now isn't it? (apart from the odd bog of course)

Seems there's plenty about (those newforce rides used to get up to 15/20 sometimes a year or three ago - 29erKeith, are you well-balanced Keith? Hello (from Mike; slow bloke, used to turn up occasionally on a Bullit!)

I usually nightride with a mate but we're a bit variable week to week on days & times. We live up Romsey way, if anyone's local&desperate&flexible & can't get to the "southern end". (there's a group that rides from Nomansland that I met once in the summer - I assume they ride year-round but I don't know 'em. Were friendly & offered me to join in but they were just a bit too early for me to catch. Can't remember the day or time now though)

scaredypants, nope I'm slightly less balanced Keith ๐Ÿ˜•
I've been riding with 'em for a few years now. The other Keith, Ash and few of the others have been at it much longer

We're usually doing 20-30 miles on a Thursday night depending on route and conditions, leaning more on 20 during the winter as it the forest gets boggy
doing our best to keep the rides interesting and varied
always good fun with a few beers/ciders along the way

The other Keith
- I did wonder how he'd fit on a 29er ๐Ÿ˜‰

gets boggy, you say ? I seem to remember Ash could take you through a bog AND a sandpit on every ride, summer or winter

Another Lordswood rider here - though not so much at night (usually burning the midnight oil in the university library... as I am now).

Man I miss riding in Lordswood! Used to love my blasts around there on a Wednesday afternoon!

noteeth, is that the Uni or the Dimstitute? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm occasionally not a million miles from Soton at the weekend, country place is up in the Test Valley area, so could make it down for a ride sometime. Would love to see what Lordswood is like now!

noteeth, is that the Uni or the Dimstitute?

The proper 'un - Archaeology Department. STW is currently distracting me from reading about 3000 PDFs. ๐Ÿ˜€

I'm an exile from Somerset (and latterly Bristol), and I didn't know what to expect from the place - but I really enjoy the trail network in Lordswood. There's some ace singletrack and it drains nicely (compared to Mendip!). It's kept me sane these past couple of years, for sure.

Out tonight for our group's regular bimble, tonight from Braishfield. Unlikely to be any heart stopping singletrack though

Jealous, I moved away from Southampton this year and haven't been to Lordswood since. I used to go early morning if I was riding solo and it was pretty safe.

Dependent on weather I was thinking about a lordswood night run this thurs evening. Happy to take you out and about if you want, the route is a bit tech in the dark - mostly singletrack, pretty short, probably an hour or so. (can link more in if we're not tired....)

Let me know if anyone is interested, suggest meeting at the municipal golf clubhouse (so people can park) at 7pm.

(apologies for not responding on my own thread I've had manflu....)

Here you go - it's just off the avenue.

Meet up by golf clubhouse itself (probably be closed) I'll most likely be on my black charge duster.

Hope you've got decent lights ๐Ÿ™‚
