Yeah there seems to have been quite abit of building going on at friston. Lots of new DH runs. Managed to stack it off a jump In front of a Bunch of youths. Was dry and fun though. The singletrack in the woods was ace. Not going to put summer tyres on or anything...
Loving these updates. Delayed my ride until Wednesday now for various reasons - hopefully another dry and sunny today won't do any harm.
Lewes to Alfriston was dry today as were two of the old stock track drop offs I use down to the Firle/Alfriston track.
The prevailing wind usually makes it easier to ride the SDW from west to east, but for my last three weekly visits the wind was coming from the NE making it far better to be traveling west.
Well thanks for all the tips and updates STW hive mind. Did it today in the end - had a cold at the start of the week, so decided to delay a day, and unfortunately missed the better weather yesterday. Didn't have any real targets, so took it easyish at the start. Tired from 40mi onwards (tough headwind section shortly before that) so pleased enough with 11hrs.
Strong winds all day, sunny for about 20 minutes at the start but grey everywhere else (a flake or two of snow) and the sun finally re-emerged for 30 minutes just before sunset as I neared Winchester. Temps between -1 and +3 all day, so difficult to keep warm in the biting wind.
Rode it East to West to get some benefit from the wind, but as I was heading NW really, and it is a NE wind, it was a side wind as much as anything else. Still helpful in parts, and definitely better than the usual West to East though. Walkers going the other way were definitely having a worse time of it.
Trail is riding really well. Dry and dusty everywhere except for one muddy descent. I'd recommend getting out before it rains again!
Rubbish photos as I only had my phone (and even that turned itself off as the battery didn't like the cold):
