Cheers Nick. We're talking about the singlespeed record though, which I'm pretty sure Rob still has. I'm far too old and slow to have a realistic punt at Josh's time (and probably Rob's too!) ๐Ÿ™‚

I was thinking of doing Winchester - Eastbourne this Saturday, but the BHF ride is a bit off-putting for me (I enjoy being in my own bubble). Especially as it starts when I want to start, and there will be competition for parking and trains back from Eastbourne...damnit!

Well our ride on the 'first half' of the route was great - read all about it here...

Trails are running fast and dry at the mo..

Ah, apologies. That's really stupid. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good read of your blog DrP, nice one.

adsh, the slippy & loose bit was the first part of Windover Hill, up from Alfriston. Then it opens up to doubletrack and you get baked in a chalk oven for the rest of the climb. The next (and last) climb up from Jevington is similar too.

Lovely up there yesterday as you say and will only get drier looking at the forecast. HOT at end of the week.

Nice one DrP and props to you both for Xrossing that. 8)

On my 1st SDWiaD one of the guys rode a cross but had to bail at the A24 as he'd been shaken to bits.

My two club mates finally agreed to do it this Sat so looking forward to trip n#8

If the 9:13 to Ebo is actual elapsed time then that's seriously rocking it 8) 8)

Best of luck. I had a crack at the double last week E-W-E but turned back at Amberley as I wasn't feeling particularly strong, still recovering from illness. Trails were in excellent condition, dry and fast. All taps are working fine at the moment.

I'll have another go at it later in the year I think, but got a couple of races to get out of the way first!

The weather forecast for the S.E. on Saturday is rain and thunderstorms of biblical proportions. I'd reschedule if I were you.

Weather Forecast for Brighton says rain until 07:00 then dry for the rest of the day, same for Eastbourne - Portsmouth may get some rain mid-morning, Chichester early afternoon. They may get largely get away with it.

yep, shows it breaking up during morning and into the day along the south coast, same as the BBC weather pages that use the same data feed.

I tried E - W - E in 2009 but bailed at Cocking on the way back ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Hopefully Mark is motoring to the finish as we speak.

Wunderground also suggests a wet one for Sat. ๐Ÿ™

He's at the bottom of Butser Hill at 12:20, having started at 18:14. Whether he gets the SS record or not it's looking like a mighty effort!

Well done that man 8) ๐Ÿ™‚

I was involved with the recent National 24 hour time trial in East Sussex.

One of the competitors did the whole event on 80" fixed ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

I could possibly cope with single speed but riding fixed, for a day is just mental.

Thanks all! ๐Ÿ™‚ I was lucky to have some great conditions, if a bit hot today. I had a tough/slow couple of hours at the turn, and predictably did lose some time to navigation, but I'm pretty happy with a sub-20 hr time. Some beautiful views during the ride, particularly the pockets of mist dotted around far below me this morning as I headed back west. Wildwife is rife up there...3 foxes, 3 badgers, hares, deer, millions of suicidal bunnies etc. Bum is now firmly planted on sofa awaiting Thai takeaway and a beer ๐Ÿ˜€ .

well deserved, god that beer will taste good. Not much cover from the suns heat on the downs, let alone the wind. Hats off ๐Ÿ˜€

Well done mate!!! Top ride!!! I did Maxx Exposure in 2012 and it is tough enough with gears, let alone back again with SS ๐Ÿ™‚

You timed it well - 2 hours of continuous thunder and lightning around Hove last night with really heavy rain for some of the that, too.

Nice one Mark and make sure you get in the SDD hall of fame. 8)

Two favourite moments from my night attempts were firstly, a white owl sitting on a fence post and silently flying away as I approached. T'other was riding down Harting Down with a herd of deer running along in the field next to me.

No it was Rob Bullyment from the Catford.

Great effort!
With a retrospectoscop, you did the right thing attempting it when you did...I worry this weekends BHF event will bee a slippy muddy crash fest...

Cheers guys (oh, and Elaine) ๐Ÿ™‚ . I definitely made the right decision to move the ride forward a couple of days...biblical storm last night (so says my wife...I was sleeping like the dead!) and clearly the same along the route. I feel for the BHF riders..just missed the lovely weather but now it's looking like they're going to get stormed on tomorrow ๐Ÿ™ .

after doing the BHF ride on Saturday I've got the utmost respect for anyone who even attempts the double. Well done! We were lucky with the weather and only had 30 minutes of light rain early on. It was sappingly hot though. I expected to do it in 10 hours but it ended up being over 12. Don't underestimate the SDW - if there's a hill ahead, you're going over it!

Well done on finishing, Brakes :-). Considering the forecast it sounds like you were lucky to escape with only a little bit of rain. Although, I suppose a bit of rain might have cooled you down a bit!

I was riding Eastbourne end of SDW friday night, storm came in earlier than forecast, the lightning was pretty intense, had to seek refuge in the 8 Bells in Jevington.
