[#6632369]

I've got an old WMB where Steve Worland talks about his Pacenti 650b versatile OX Platinum steel bike and how his favourite build was with a 29er rigid front end. It sounded like a great bike.

I was thinking the new Cotic Soul is pretty light and 853 steel, so it might convert to a poor man's version of Steve Worland's custom Pacenti (£1350 frame in 2010 - apparently). I was wondering if any of you guys (or gals) run the Soul 275 with rigid forks and may even 29er forks? Maybe you haven't done it yet, but you've been thinking about 29er Flows or P35s and bigger tyres on a rigid build.

Let's hear all about it.

PS. I'd like to confess that I don't currently own a Cotic but I like their bikes and I like the people.

Timmee 🙂

I used to run a 26" Inbred with a 29" rigid fork.
Was great.
I'd go for a Solaris with 29+ up front.

Not sure how many of the 275 were in the original run but they are still out of stock according to the site.

I did get an email awhile back saying they should be in this month.

But anyway, I'd imagine the number out there are small so you might have a wait for feedback, etc.

I use a 29er rigid Exotic (and 26 inch wheel) in a 26 inch Soul quite often, it was ace. Then did the same with a Soda, it was acer. I'd expect it to also be ace on a 650b Soul as they ride much the same.

LOL @ Jeff (who is my buddy, but lucky to remain so after a post like that!) 😀

Thanks to everyone who posted a serious reply. I am really impressed that Cy has managed to make the 275 the same weight as the 26 inch Soul. I think the Stanton is great but it's a stiffer, heavier more hardcore bike altogether. I'm more of an XC guy myself. I'd want it to get my 13.5 stone bulk around a 50k bastard-hilly half-marathon in Builth or somewhere like that. I reckon the 275 Soul looks very capable and would build up a lot lighter than the Solaris. I'm on a Ti El-Mariachi now but I have a soft spot for the Soul.

Do some maths...

Compare the contact patch to crown of a sagged 27.5 suspension fork with a 29er rigid fork and 29er wheel with a nice big fat tyre.

I bet there isn't much in it.

Somebody take him away please!

BTW. Jeff's Black 17" Cove Handjob is for sale @ £175...and very nice it is too. Hardly ridden and in fab condtion as Jeff likes to buy bikes, keep 'em in showroom condtion, but thinks it's beneath his dignity to actually ride 'em.
