I've come to the conclusion its not going to dry out any time soon. I have a Giant Anthem that doesn't have a great deal of clearence either so my current Nobby Nic 2.25's just seize up in heavy mud.

I dont want a full on mud tyre as I assume they are next to useless on hardpack or anything less than mud?

So what mud ish tyres are good, probably about 1.8 in size? I'm not too bothered about weight as it doesnt make any difference when the bikes covered in mud

Muddy Mary tyres are the best all-rounders I've tried. Might be a bit big/heavy to suit an anthem but aren't squirmy on hardpack like some other mud-specific tyres are. But for the money it's hard to beat a mud x or Storm control and they will be significantly lighter.

I've been using MudX tyres as soon as it gets greasy. Just bought some Racing Ralphs and was pleasantly shocked at the performance in the mud. Really gloopy stuff and they aren't great but then neither are MudX

Bonty mud rolls brilliant and grips like a champ. Probably leave them on for ever.

Mud X, ace in mud, lightish and roll reasonably well.

Mud X is decent on the back but a total one-trick pony, all it does well is mud and it's very bad at wet/muddy rocks. Won't have one on the front again, just wasn't happy having to ride within its limitations.

Only had a brief go on the Beavers but they were a lot more versatile. Didn't feel as good in pure slop though?

each to their own, I find Bonty MudXs are a great all round tyre that happen to be particularly good in the mud.

Mud X's are a good mud tyre (funny that!) but they are not quick or especially versatile. In fact, they're really bloody slow compared to most tyres, and I find them a bit limiting for most conditions. Awesome in filthy conditions though!

Try a 2.1 Maxxis Medusa instead. They roll noticeably quicker, though not as excellent in deep sloppy mud, they're a better all rounder. The Beaver's get great reviews too, and roll well for a mud tyre.
