My bottle of Purple Extreme has finally run out, so what's new and good to replace it?
Just want one simple lube for all conditions that doesn't attract too much muck and grit and is easy to apply.
What does the panel recommend?
spit lube
Rock'n'Roll Extreme.
^^ what this dude said. - Topic Closed.
I'm using RR Extreme as well, does the job well, though I seem to go through it pretty quickly compared to others I've used. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
White Lightning Epic Ride is my lube du jour.
I hardly dare ask what your lube de nuit is....
RnR Extreme here too.

You'd have to join me on a night ride to find out.

Another RnR Extreme
Juice Lubes Viking. Excellent stuff.
I have used Finish Line cross country (green top) for years and always found it good enough. But in vew of the above just how much better are the newer lubes? Am I missing a trick (seems likely)

I think it's the time of the year to be honest - lots of mud = cleaning more often = relubing chain more often. Well, actually, maybe not just the time of the year; the past year in general...
I used to use Finish Line, but RnR doesn't pick up as much crud and what it does pick up wipes off much more easily; no/little 'serious' clening needed - wipe chain, apply RnR, whizz cranks for 20secs, wipe chain again (more the better), done.
I'm currently trying finish line ceramic (remember to shake the bottle). Seems OK, less sticky than green.
+1 Finish Line Cross Country
Finish Line Epic for me too.
Rock n roll, trying fenwicks stealth lube soon
Shimano PTFE - just thought I'd try it. Not had any problems using it.
+1 Finish Line XC wet lube for chain.
Tri-Flow lube for stanchions and pivot points.
Finish Line Green at the moment due to the bogging conditions.
However normally (when it dries out a bit) White Lightning Epic is betterer.
goose fat.
Finish line green is quite an old fashioned choice to be fair. Makes chains super black and mucky.
Oh yeah- I finally tried Tandemjeremy#s putoline wax suggestion on the hardtail. And y'know what? It's good. I'd expected it to be sticky like the stuff I used to use on the motorbike but it's not at all. Chain feels a bit stiffer than normal but it's not missed a beat- need to go for a proper roll in the mud some time to give it a proper worst-case test.
But yes it is a relative pain in the bum to apply.
Those Purple/Rock n Roll ones are DEATH for chainguides, incidentally - they murder the plastic.
I bought a huge jerry can of finish line green a few years back... it works fine for me.
does get a bit gummed up with crud if you don't rinse your chain regularly, but I do, so it is fine ๐
Dave
Liking Purple. My chain gets cleaned weekly for commute or after riding for off road.
The nastiest I've tried was Edinburgh's own brand Eco product. Thought I'd try it.
By the end of the week my chain was filthier than I've ever seen it and took hours to get all the muck off... Which just washes off with Finish Line Red/Green or Purple Extreme...
Finish Line Green always looks terrible pretty fast but it does seem to be mostly cosmetic- the chain on my commuter is black slime hell but it's as smooth as you could ask.
Muc Off Dry is somewhat ironically working well for me at the moment. I'm finding it's picking up less dirt than Rock & Roll Extreme and as long as I apply after each ride is trouble free. It is similar in performance to Pedros Ice Wax - which I used to love.
Yep all year user and lover of Rock 'n' Roll Extreme here too.
The stuff is ****ing magic.
As above, CHAIN-L
I tried many, but this is it, smooth drivetrain, long lasting, just wipe off before and after ride, and your chain stays newborn !
Squirt Lube.
Sewing machine oil from work, and have done for years without a problem
Haven't tried it myself, but I know someone with very exacting technical standards who swears by ProGold Prolink.
Scottoiler for me on the work bike, blue rock n' roll stuff seems good on other applications.
A yes for ProGold Prolink from me. Best lube I've ever used. I've found Finishline and similarly thicker oils too sticky and filth-magnety. I did use White Lightning dry lube for a few bottles-worth several years ago but I found it wasn't up to muster in the wet. ProGold for me. It is the bomb, yes it is.
Scottoiler for me.
Will never go back to normal oil.
