[#4009281]

This warm weather is wonderful, but the downside of all this time spent on my bike in the countryside is the amount of insect bites on my legs and the itching and how swollen a couple of them are is driving me nuts.
Can anyone recommend a repellant and also something to sooth the itching?

Can't help on the bites but I had my first 'run the nettle gauntlet in dog poo woods' ride earlier of the year this week so you have my sympathy.

Ps: I'll try and ride Stanmer on sunday night and see how it's drying out. Cheers luke

Camomile cream on the bites and a couple of antihistamine tablets down your hatch.

deet is the only repellent worth getting.. it's almost totally effective..

but it stinks and feels like turps on your skin.. and don't get it on your lips or eyes.. or confuse it with veet..

Jungle formula, extra strong

It's full of chemicals but 100% effective, you get used to the smell, only downside it that as you sweat it eventually works its way into eyes and mouth

You have my sympathy too, I've recently started itching due to an allergy (didn't know I had any allergies) and I take a prescription anti-histamine twice a day which has made it bearable.

Try an over the counter anti-histamine but don't bother withe really cheap ones!

Good luck!

It's the citronella (sp) in Avon skin so soft that does the trick. You can get it in shampoo, shower gel, moisturiser etc. Use them all. Keep the bugs off and smell lemony fresh.

You have my sympathies. Bitten to shreds last weekend. Very small little bites but ridiculously itchy 12-24 hrs later. Yesterday, missed the bites but massive stingers everywhere and ripped legs and hands from razorsharp gorse. All in the name of fun!!!!!

Skin-so-soft is pretty decent, seems to have kept most of the little swine off me recently

Benzyl benzoate works very well and is the best thing for harvest mites as it kills them rather than just releaving the itching.
