Just awaiting delivery of the base model transmitter and wondering what the standard bridger/ranger tyres are like and if it is worth trying to set them up tubeless? Are the side walls thick enough?

They're TCS Light / Fast Rolling I think, and they set up tubeless just fine. My experience is that the sidewalls on the standard TCS tyres are too fragile for rocky stuff - at the rear at least - when run at the pressures that works best with plus-sized tyres. Less of an issue where it's not rocky, but they die fast in the Peak District where they pinch-flat and/or tend to hole sidewalls.

The TCS Tough casing is heavier, but much more robust in the sidewalls, and definitely worth a look if you get on with the Ranger. I've been running 2.8 Minion DHF front and 2.8 Rekon+ rear over winter and they're grippier but also a bit tougher than the standard WTB casings ime.

Great bike btw. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks BWD, I had it on my head that the standard tyres would be your typical plasticky affairs rather than a tubeless ready version?! This bike will mostly be on sandy rooty trails, I would prefer to avoid shelling out for new tyres straight away, especially given the current price of plus.

I think the 2.8 WTB tyres are all tubeless ready - TCS is their designation - and Alpkit just sources them in bulk from WTB, so I'd have thought you'd be fine. To be fair, the WTB ones are priced quite reasonably compared to the Maxxis lunacy, though they've had a price cut recently and can be bought at less horrific prices from German webshops.

Fingers crossed, I will check with Alpkit to be sure, just need the bike to arrive!

OOh, that is a good price! It comes with a 3.0 on the front and I'm sure the Fox 34 I bought will take a 3.0, but I'm really trying not to spend any money, apart from the new fork, bars, dropper....... It's bad timing really as we are off to look at a pup tonight and off on holiday on the first, so upgrades to the new unridden bike need to wait.

damned good price though!
