For early road races.
One in march is raced on a circuit of compacted granite, well 70% of it is. And the organisers recommend 25/28mm tyres if it's wet.

Tubs or clinchers?

If clinchers, then 25c Michelin Pro Races. EDIT Or 25c Conti GP 4 Seasons.

If tubs, then Paves are 27c, I think.

Clinchers. I was thinking of cost. Are fatter tyres naturally more puncture proof?

one of the black chilli compound contis if it's grip you're worried about, ultra gator skins if it's punctures. Thousands of miles done on gators, never punctured. I puncture on every ride with other tyres. Mind you, I'm not exactly racing weight.

Whilst on the subject of Pavé, Mrs flap-jack noted that the chanting on the background of 'A day on Hell' was the word 'Pavé'. A Flandrian chant rather than a Gregorian...
