Hello there,
Been reading the forums for a while, just recently decided to join up.
Was wondering if you guys could help me out with some suggestions for a FS 29er. Now i've already settled on a Canyon Nerve AL 29 9.9 (2119 pounds) only to find out later it comes out in April 2013.
So basically that's my safe and also cheap option if I can't find anything in the next month.
Other bikes i like was the Giant Anthem but finding a great spec on it for my price range is really difficult.
I also stumbled upon this Specialized Camber FSR Comp for 2000 pounds.
Otherwise still looking so any help is appreciated.
Thanks guys
Nice bike that Canyon...great spec although surprisingly short eTT.
I'd also be looking at Titus Rockstar (Carbon) and SC Superlight 29er
Have you looked at the Giant Trance X 29er 1?
Really nice to ride, starting to be available with reasonable lead times/from stock (I like mine lots but have only had it a month).
Only things are:- too much white paint for some peoples taste, and 120mm suspension travel which may be more than you need.
SM
Scott spark?
There's one in the classifieds.
Have you considered Rocky Mountain bikes? eg Element? Very nice bikes and Evans are doing close out deals on them
I just got hold of a 2011 anthem for £1300, in the very sexy polished ally finnish, very good spec as it is,but the money saved on buying second hand you could upgrade even more and have a real classic

Not sure if the image will work, this is not mine but I have just bought that frame with some white fox talas forks.
Total of the build with mostly XX group and a bit of X0/X9 will come to around £1400, not bad considering the frame retails for some ridiculous price and the forks for about 1000!
There are bargains to be had out there, just have to be patient!
I got that frame and forks off the bay for £900!
That didn't work then!
Google niner rip 9 black!
I tried a Trek Rumblefish. By god that was fast.
If i had the money it would be a kona satori(?) 2013. Full slx group set, dropper post and fox 34's, nice amount of travel too. Never going to happen though.
Spearfish frames are down to £650 at triton
Got a Spark 29er. It's Brilliant.
Second the Satori, I was so close to buying one, but just couldn't justify the price (especially as a new sofa is also required). Lovely bike, and a great ride.
I am economising with a Whyte instead.
Just to offer some alternative options, there are some very cheap KHS deals on their website, or build up a Titus Rockstar from a frame from OnOne. So many bikes, so little time...
First of all, thanks a lot for the suggestions guys, didnt expect so many replies.
Im still at work so i cant reply in depth but from what i looked over in a rush the Ghost AMR models look nice but are not available till february 2013 so thats no good for me. If i have to wait that long i might as well wait 2 more months and get the Canyon Nerve AL.
The rocky mountain, im not sure. I havent seen one single model on the trails and not many people recommend them. So id rather go for a brand name at this point, if im going to spend quite a few pennies on this bike.
Kona Satori is £2900 so over my budget a bit. I guess i could justify going over it but i've never been much of a Kona fan.
The giant anthem 1 is again £2k which is fine but its lower specced than other bikes in this price range so as much as i like the bike if i get it it'll need some upgrades.
What else do you fellas think?
Nice... 😀
Crc bargain 😉
2013 Cube Stereo!
Simply gorgeous!
Ventana El Rey or El Capitan if you want longer travel. Again it is a build up a frame from Riverside Cycle Centre - the owner used to frequent this forum - but frame is 1599ukp so may or may not be with in your price range. I have the previous model El Rey and no regrets.
If you are a medium then THIS is an absolute bargain

I've got a Rumblefish Elite, 120mm but the travel feels completely endless. Not the fastest uphills but neither am I. Fantastic bike
Hi mate,
I know this isn't your wanted ad but I commented on your wanted ad and got no response?
I've got a brand new 2012 large orange gyro ltd edition in black and gold. It's got a good spec and full fox kashima supension etc.
It was a gift from my parents for my 21st but it's too big for me. Because it's a ltd edition I couldn't find a medium at the time but have since picked one up on eBay so want to sell the large one.
Having ridden my medium I can say it's a great trail ripper- not the lightest but my times round my local loop are dramatically improved. Haven't tried any other 29ers but I found it very nimble and easy to loft the front end which I wasn't really expecting for a big wheeler!
Anyway before I stick it on eBay I just wondered if you might be interested? Save me the fees etc. Would be at the lower end of your budget as well so you'd have some change if you wanted to add a dropper post or something too!
Let me know.
Cheers
@wjames: sorry dude, been busy with work but i've managed to reply to your post a bit earlier. Thing is i've never been a fan of Orange bikes, don't find very attractive. So i wish you good luck with the sale, it really has a nice specc on it.
@robarnold: Trek looks ok, might save a spot for it in my list.
@jasonm945: Great bargain indeed, just im 189cm tall and ride a size L so don't want to risk it especially since it's mail order.
@ratadog: yes, a bit pricey and not really looking to build it my own. Don't have the patience/knowledge to do that on my own 😛
@alandavidpetrie79: gorgeous indeed, but almost 3k. Looks like a race ready bike and im afraid it would be a bit wasted on me for my skill level. Maybe in 2-3 years i'll be worthy of it. Still drooling over it though.
@Scienceofficer: Turner Sultan comes as a frame only, doesn't it? Not really what im after, as im a bit impatient just riding my road bike.
So thank you all for the suggestions, really appreciate it.
After endless running around in circles i've decided to go with the Giant.
Unfortunately i couldn't find any x1 or x0 from 2012 in size L so Anthem x2 2012 it is. It's pretty cheap at 1300 pounds and i figure i can upgrade some bits as i go till i reach my budget limit.
I would have went with a 2013 Anthem x1 but i cant stand that yellow. I like the 2013 X2 but it's almost the same spec as the 2012 so i looked at it as a 400 pounds saving.
Any anthem owners out here? Also, if in the future i would like to add a fork and shock with more travel (120=140mm?) would the frame and geometry allow it?
PS: Thanks for being so patient with me fellas
Whyte M109 or T-129
I demoed the T-129 as a bit of a sceptic of full suspension 29ers, having ridden a number of 29ers that just didn't feel right to me in the past. The T-129 really is something else!
EDIT: It's also £2k with a Rockshox Reverb post, 15mm axled Reba's and a 2x10 X9 setup! Bargain if you ask me...
@mboy: damn you, after i've been running around in circles for so long here you come and drop this on me. Im seriously taking it into consideration now, especially with the 120mm travel.
I already mentioned the Whyte somewhere up there 😉
Mine is landing mid-January... apparently 🙂
Hargroves cycles are doing an alu camber for 1500 i believe.
Should be a no brainer.
Got in touch with local bike shop who deals with Whyte and they said they can't get any at the moment and are not sure when that will be so i left it at that.
Went with a Giant Anthem x2 2012 and will upgrade bits and pieces as i go. Or probably leave it stock and get a Canyon Nerve AL when it comes out in april, can't decide right now.
Anyhu, i'd like to thank all of you for jumping in. Really appreciate it.
Now as a last request, is anyone here from Leeds, Headingley who still rides during winter?
Interesting thread. Please post a review of the Anthem when you've christened it. I've been hovering over the 'buy' button on one of those for a while now.
I have a Scalpel 3. I hate it so much because it has rendered my five other MTBs redundant.
Not sure about the T-129, but ATB are quoting Dec 18th for medium M-109 and... Spring 2013 for large!
And the production T-129S won't come with a Reverb, it has the X-Fusion HiLo instead. Still good value though and rides very well by all accounts. Will hopefully get to try out the M-109, T-129 and the new 729/929 etc in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it.
Will try to go out this monday or wednesday if its not raining to heavily on the local trails.

Oh you sod !!!!! LOL. Both in green and orange in a large too !!! That's too good a price to resist is that.
I have a regular wheel anthem. Mates often think it's a hardtail due to the way it climbs until they look closer. I love anthems. You made a good choice. Happy with 120mm though 140 might feel a bit wrong.
Just bought a Spearfish 🙂
Friend of mine just bought a 2012 Specialized Camber FSR Comp from Hargroves for £1200 which seemed like a pretty good deal to me, especially as he prefers 3x9 to 2x10.
I am tempted to push the button on a Giant 29er. Of all the test bikes I rode last year is was my favourite bar the Spesh Epic Carbon (but at £4k !!!). Ummed and aahed for too long and then the 2012 were basically sold out in large 😉
I agree that yellow looks horrible in pictures of X1, but might be better in the flesh. But saw Trance 29er in the flesh and that looks much nicer than in photos. From my demos, I am fully converted to 29ers but now split between Trance (not demo-ed yet) and Anthem. Or should I go for Trance and old version of XTC composite for a race XC bike?
I am not enough of an expert on components to understand why the 2013 Anthem is £400 cheaper than the 2012. There were a few 2012 around at £1699 versus oringal £2299 and this year's £1899 plus incentives (at least in some shops).
Yet to see any reviews or intelligent critiques of 2012 v 2103 Anthem 29er 1.
I'd buy a second hand XTC29 Alu frame 🙂 it's only 300gr heavier than carbon. That way you can evaluate it and have a smaller expense to do so...
I hear there's one for sale in the Classified section
Nice idea weeksy, thanks. But recent shenanigans in classifieds has put me off buying anything off here!!

If you knew Weeksy's history on another type of bike forum- you'd know he has a waiting list of people wanting to buy his second hand stuff 😀
I have just got a camber and I have to say it's a great piece of kit. Well worth a look
