Supposed to be 3 days riding but my mate blew his mech through his wheel on the end of the second day at Grisedale Hause so we went for a walk up Blencathra ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Paul - fair amount of cheek.... ๐Ÿ˜›

Day 1 - Kentmere over the back to Gatesgarth, up to Harter Fell and down to Nan Bield (push up to Mardale Ill bell and back down to Nan Bield).

Day 2 - Patterdale up to The Knott, along past Satura Crag and Angletarn crags to Boredale Hause and the great trail back down to Patterdale. Then an out and back from Patterdale to Grisedale Hause but Jim blew his rear mech through the wheel so that put and end to his riding!

Day 3 - no working bike for Jim so we went for a walk up Blencathra via Sharp Edge

anc - in hindsight I should of carried up there ๐Ÿ˜ฏ and let my mate walk down as the trail down to scales tarn and then on down scale beck looked really good (its on the list for next time)

Harter - Nan bield - Kentmere really is very good.

Oh yeah is Grisedale Hause to Grasmere any good as the top looked really good but I could not see around the corner

There's a really good almost all rideable way up Blencathra round the back below sharp edge to the north east, see FP below White Horse Bent then take the obvious path up Foule crag.

Best way out of Grisedale Hause is the way you went to patterdale ๐Ÿ˜‰ its nowt special into grasmere

The trail from Grisedale Hause to grassmere is pretty nice. The bridleway turns off from the obvious trail up near the top and goes down a grass bank. I would accidently miss the bridleway turn and stay on the main trail if I were you

You mean a 'relatively easy' way up Blencathra surely? I've made that mistake before when showing people around, it's best to describe the climbs as 'The easiest way' and 'an efficient way to gain altitude', rather than using words that can be used against you a couple of hours later!

Well easy in Lakeland uphill terms! Nothing like a good sweaty hike a bike anyway - sorts the men out from the boys!

what, like your most efficient way to gain altitude to get up to causey pike the other week paul?? which involved dropping down to the stream and then straight up the side of a densely heather-covered hillside?!

Nothing like a good sweaty hike a bike anyway - sorts the men out from the boys!

yup! but you're not a real man unless your bike weighs +35lbs and you summit at least 20minutes before the rest of your group ๐Ÿ™‚

To be fair, I did say I'd done it both ways and wasn't sure which way was easiest, the path we took between the two options I offered you didn't exist last time I went up there. The heather-grass push avoids having to climb the summit and lower your bike down the cliffs and it avoids having to go over Scar Craggs, so it has it's merits. You're definitely not a real man if a bit of a slog through some grass and heather puts you off!

Love nan bield, drop off harter and mardale ill bell look interesting.

What was riding up grisedale hause like? Been down it off dollywaggon, that was fun didn't look like it would be fun going up tho.

Can't say I'd fancy going up from patterdale to the tarn. If you'd wanted to extend it a little, I'd have gone up Keppel Cove on the zigzags which are rideable, then you have a small'ish carry onto lower man then onto onto helvellyn and down dollywagon. Wouldn't have taken much longer as it took 1.5hrs up from patterdale to grisedale.

anc - think you are right as and Jim would not have blown his rear mech off above the tarn

Excellent pictures freeridenick.

the trail down to scales tarn and then on down scale beck looked really good (its on the list for next time)

It's superb - especially the last section of singletrack down to Scales Farm and the A66. Just watch out for the gorse ๐Ÿ˜ฅ
