well.. seeing as my little attempt at a Solstice thread has been overlooked I'll post here instead..

I'd quite like a bit of a solstice epic.. maybe even watch the dawn from a prominent hilltop.. I like to try to mark the summer solstice in some way cos it's also my birthday..

Not gonna happen this year though unfortunately due to one thing and another..

However, I've managed get a pass for a Leo Sayer tomorrow instead.. and I'd like to think that I can drag myself from my pit at 3.30am for the climb up to Haytor to watch the dawn.. but after 3 months of doing the nightshift with our new son I'm shattered, so it remains to be seen if I've got the minerals to go through with a cold dark start tomorrow morning..

If not, I'll still be heading out at some point to bimble across the moor 'til my legs get tired.. say hello if you see me..

Well, I can't ride but am quite tempted to rock up at Avebury and get some healing vibes.

God knows my life needs to get better. ๐Ÿ™

Did a 45km gentle road loop with the GF, stopping at a pub for supper, then on to stonehenge. luckily she had to work today so we left around midnight and got home before the torrential downpour.
Make the most of it while it's here folks!

I was going to later on, but then the weather looks decidedly cack ๐Ÿ™„ so now i'm going to have a good night's sleep instead.
Er, solstice is today isn't it? ๐Ÿ˜†

Anyway, had a nice bomb up the Thames yesterday- lovely and sunny but windy as hell coming back. A real slog to get home i'm embarrased to say ๐Ÿ˜ณ

well.. I didn't make my planned start time and missed the dawn.. in fact I didn't head out until mid day..

After the Tipleyhill - Green Lane - granite railway climb from Liverton to Smallacombe, I paused for a breather, and was considering cracking the bottle of Fursty Ferret that was in my bag and having an afternoon nap in a cosy nook somewhere..

My plans went awry however, when an impish old coot hove into view and struck up a conversation..
He was interesting enough to put any of STWs more infamous characters to shame, with his plans for a tour of Spain with a dog team and cart, and tales of brushes with the Morroccan police, and while he sipped brandy from an old mosquito repellent bottle he told me of his ideas regarding a prototype folding bicycle..

A couple of hours passed all too quickly but with lots of laughter and by the time we parted company I didn't have much enthusiasm for completing the planned epic I had in mind..

So with a brief stop at the Hound for a bacon bap, I headed the quick way home over the Bowermans nose and down the old Trendlebere road to Pullabrook Woods and on to Bovey by late afternoon..

all in all a very successful failed solstice ride..

Was going to ride over there myself CG, but 'Mini B Mark 3' had a stinky cold for the last few nights and I fell asleep around 21:00 on the sofa, awaking to miss dawn, apres dawn and very nearly my breakfast ๐Ÿ™‚
