Cheers, one more Q. Could you tell me the shock bushing dimensions (length, diameter, size of bolt)?

Shock mount is 22 x 8mm. Bushing diameter is whatever shock you have. Kinda.

Thanks for the info Brant. Wish you hadn't just dropped XX1 into the equation though, better go and see what's in the piggy bank.

I am trying to do a "nice" build with XX1 for about £3.5K without being stupid. CCDB, Reverb, decent wheels, XX1 drivetrain.

Very interested to see the final spec on that, possibly with another option in place of the CCDB.

Well on current form it'll be that or a Monarch RT3. Though on that model I think I'm just going for CCDB.

Shock will be a 190x50 on the 29er btw.

Brant, do you have reach&stack figures for the 2013 El Guapo? I'm 6' with a 33" inseam, long body but short arms - thinking with the lengthened TT that a Med/18" would be suitable as it comes in the same ETT as a large Mega. Those XT builds are damn good value, would you be offering them with a Lyrik/36 up front at all?

I'm sold on one of these I think, but struggling to work out if the CCDB is really worth 33% more than what seems a decent enough Rock Shox shock. Has anyone experience of both or sciency stuf to convince me to part with the extra?

Brant, could you let me know what the head tube length would be combined with a smootie mixer head set please. I just want to be sure my current forks will fit (190 mm steerer). Also when might you have pictures of full frames. Cheers.

Idiot.. You want a medium. Completes with X9 and Reverb and Lyrik air coming at ace price.
Dave. Will check head tube dims tommorow. Can't remember and don't want to open laptop.

Rt3 are good shock, but if you want to smash through stuff then CCDB is better. For just riding around, a Monarch is fine.

Brant can I ask with regards to to the racer x, putting a 120 mm fork on how much will it alter the angles..from 71 degrees to.....?

Any plans to revamp the racer x as you have the el gaupo?

Thanks

Brant.......rather disappointing you didn't take the opportunity to check with dropout what his problems were regarding getting problems resolved.

Keeping a customer happy should be priority surely ??

Shudder to think what XX1 will cost - £400 for the cassette?

Better frame pics - http://www.shedfire.com/2012/07/17/new-colour-el-guapos-in-now/

Thought Dropoff's issue had been resolved by our returns/customer service team. If it hasn't, I will try and assist of course.

OE cost is 40% more than the SRAM Red cassette.

Think I may need to scratch my new bike itch quite soon and these look like cracking value.

Not being a brand or bike I am overly familiar with, am I correct in thinking that these are comparable with a Nomad? Has anyone ridden both to compare?

i like the look of the el guapo/CCDBair. If i ever choose to get a new bike, i think that will be a major contender.

Really like the look of those so I think I'll bite the bullet on the CCDB. Brant, do you have the headtube length, preferably with the smoothie mixer, just want to be sure I wouldn't need a new fork too.

Thanks

How about a version with Lyriks rather than the inevitable Rev's?

They would go with the CCDB much better in the 'bashing through stuff' category.

That's what's confusing me at the moment - everything I've read seems to suggest the frame is much better suited to 'big' forks, i.e. Fox 36s or Lyriks, but this build (and the one tested by WhatMTB) use Revs. Can't decide whether there would be any discernable difference for typical trail (centre) riding.

Those new pics Brant posted probably don't do the raw finish justice - they looked MUCH nicer in the photos where they were just hanging in the factory.

Sorry - I was talking about the 29er complete El Guapo I'm working on right now. They don't make Lyrics in 29in. For the 26in El Guapo, yes, I favour Lyrics over Revs.

Shame that there is not a 135x12 or 142.5x12 drop out frame

Headtube length: 102mm (S), 102mm(M), 118mm (L)

Yes. But it really doesn't seem to hamper it. Back end very solid.

I'm sorry to hear that and unfamiliar with that brand of hub, but I would have imagined they make some sort of adaptory thing?

chris king and yes they do. but I would rather just buy a frame that has that style drop out or buy a frame which has a 12 x 142.5 drop out and purchase that adapter. Then go backwards.

That still makes a replacement cassette the best part of £200 by my calculation, and I regard them as a consumable item - in muddy conditions (and we've had some of them recently) I seem to get through them quicker than tyres.

That helps my decision making - I was hovering over the buy button for a CCDB frame, then started thinking that the 29er with XX1 looked worth waiting for. A bit of Googling now tells me that the CCDB expects a service every 100 hours and you can't do it yourself so the 26 inch frame with the Monarch is looking very attractive. Just need Mrs R's approval on the colour!

Interesting reading. I fancy a changing my ML8 for something new and shiny, but as it's used as a mini DH and Alps bike, I'm unsure if going from 165mm travel to 155mm would be a move in the wrong direction.

The weight and angles are very similar, but maybe a slackset El Guapo with some Talas 180s could be a nice option.

Yes, my ML7/5 is proving very hard to replace too.
I keep looking at new bikes, but end up just servicing this one.

i heard that qr rather than bolt through rear ends put less stress on shock mounts. ergo less frame cracking.

just hearsay like.

Bit mystified by those pics as they seem to show 2 different frames - the orange one has an extra tube from the seat tube to the top tube and it seems to have a curvier top tube. Which is the "real" El Guapo?

Small frames don't have a bracing tube to the seat tube from the top tube.
Medium and large frames do.

Top tube profile is same on all models.

You get less headtube failures from 142 rear ends though. The headtube knows there's a bolt thru back there, and automatically feels more relaxed as a result. This also has the effect of slackening the bike slightly.

it wasnt. i saw a lad. bolt through back end. cracked shock mount. no joke. provable fact.

also saw a lad with a qr rear end, NO cracked shock mount.

so explain that one!

similar to what george mentions, the crack was actually resulting in a semi-automated slacker head angle, think the bike knew it was in the alps.
