Off to PPDS next week and at the last minute thinking I might like some wider bars. Got some evolve xc bars at 650mmish, so would the extra 35mm make much dfference? its only 17.5mm per end... OR go for some 700mm+ really wide ones? anyone recommend any? looking to be cheap tp try them out; if I like em then would probably go for some easton monkeylite DH 8)
depends how wide apart the trees are where you ride 🙂
tight as a knats ....... in cannock, but everywhere else they wouldn't be a problem.

I got some funn 710mm ones for about £25 from somewhere - can't remember where sorry. Think On One had some other wide bars on sale too.
I really like them.
Sunnline V3 on CRC are 711mm and not oo dear.
I just went from 68o to 711 and can notic eit but it may be as much to do with rise and sweep as actual width.
Bars are like drugs, or maybe tits.... it's a slippery slope, and once you start down it there's no turning back. Bigger is always better and you'll never be happy going back to less.
i tried some burgtec ride wides on a friends blur 4x and loved them at 750mm
Some bloke in another thread suggested no wide than your shoulders; mine mesure at just under 500mm. So either he's wrong or I'm scrawny! It is tempting to get some mahoosive ones tho!

685mm Eastons here, just about the right compromise between "Look at my bars!" and being able to get the gaps...
Get tape measure out and just look at the length of the reel you pull out to 760mm!! Really????
If you put a bike with those bars on the roof of your car you would need a wide load escort!

I think 710 is the optimum.
i think my xxxl reverse fli bars at 760mm are just about wide enough..
fwiw they dont slow me down through twisty tight trees either
I have Easton Monkeylite DH bars at 711mm on my AM ... bloody awesome bars , bullet proof and really light , bit pricey but you definately get what you pay for.

I've been using easton EA70s at 685 for the last few years. This year, I fancied some fancy carbon ones, so go the 660mm EC70 CNT bars. Lovely bars and I tried my best to like them for 6 months, but really missed the old width. So, just swapped them out for good old EA70s. I'll never ride anything else.
I've tried a buddy's DH bike with 700s on it and they felt ridiculous... and only approaching anything like nice with a teeny tiny stem.

I run 711mm Easton Havocs. I like. Lots.
Very few places where I ride the bike they're on are that tight, as it's mainly my big mountain/trail centre bike. The handling at speed is so much better with the big bars on.
I'v just gone to 680mm, which for me seems to be spot on, they're the first bars I've used where I've never felt my hands creeping outwards. But different people fit different bars of course.
How much climbign do you do? If it is a lot then don't go much wider than 650mm - I've got some wide things on my new bike and climbing is rather wobbly - feels fine but the bars are twitching all over the place...then if you do start to wander you need to correct it big style to get it going again...
If you don't do much climbing or a 'normal' amount then it should be fine...going down they are excellent, but going up they aren't as good.
I don't find it a problem for climbing - managed to do all the top section of Walna Scar road from Seathwaite without stopping yesterday which I've never managed before with narrower bars. Tucking in your elbows helps.
After umming and ahhing for a bit I've just gone from 660mm to 710mm on my Pitch for the Alps (Going tomorrow - WOOHOO!)
I've only ridden them once to try them out but they seem spot on

i have like 785mm (ran 800 but you cant get through any tree with them), on the V10.
The blur ltc has chromag os at 730, but its a bit wide at times.
And the best rule of thumb for width i have ever been told is "do 10 push ups and then measure, that position gives u the most power and there for control"
Those FSA bars that Grumm points out at On One are [i]really[/i] good for the money. I have a (black) pair on my new DH bike.
