Got a few days to spend in Snowdonia at the end of the month, so looking for some big all-day routes (6hr+ preferably).
Not fussed about doing trail centres, am fine with map-reading and a bit of portage but nothing super-technical as I'm riding alone (and slightly mince-core). Not too bothered about riding Snowdon itself either as I'll probably hike up there one day.
Any suggestions, or recommendations as to where I can find some routes (online or books)? Seem to have found plenty for the Clwyds which are an option, but not much for Snowdonia itself.
Thanks in advance!
How about the Berwyns and the classic Wayfarer's?
Hmmm - Berwyns looks good. What/where is the Wayfarer's?
Unfortunately I lost all my very old gpx routes but know I started from Llandrillo on the B4401 and pretty much right away you're off road in the middle of nowhere. Past the memorial and the shooting hut to Pentre, head to Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceirog.
Sorry but can't remember where else, I don't think they were waymarked tracks but remember heading for a plantation.
You should be able to find some old threads on here.
It felt remote, hardly saw a soul, waterproof socks are a good idea. Really unspoilt countryside and terrific views.
Edit: meant to have said that you can make the ride as big as you want, loads of options but would be worthwhile getting local info on them.
The clwyds are great, I used to live up near mold and rode around there often, starting from mold/cilcain over through loggerheads, moel fammau, into denbigh then ruthin and clocainog forest.
there is also beddgellert where you can ride for a while, oh and by bala and the horseshoe pass.
not much help with routes but if you google those places on google maps and string a route together.
