[Closed] Snapped remote lockout lever. Replacement = £50!?!?!?!

[#3236029]

I was out riding today and had a little crash, managed to snap off my remote lockout lever for Magura Marta forks, 2009 model. The clamp stayed attached to my bars, the actual remote bit with the lever snapped off of that.

Just googled to see how much a replacement costs. FIFTY POUNDS - are you kidding!? Official Magura webstore has it at $60, which works out about a tenner better assuming free postage, but this is still an immoral sum of money to charge for what is essentially a plastic lever with some cable sticking out of it.

I'm not paying this sum of money, or anywhere near it, for such a small thing. Am I therefore lockoutless until I should be fortunate enough to find something on the second hand market? Have I any other options?

Edit: just Googled to see how much a RockShox one would cost for comparison - £110!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell is going on in the world?

As it's just a lever that pulls some gear cable, could you not use one from another manufaturer that's not £110? e.g.Rockshox poplock?

Ah thanks for that - the RS lever I linked to in my edit is the PushLoc, which I understand is a posher version of the Poplock. I might be tempted by that... £30 is still a lot of money for a bit of plastic and cable though 🙁

Mine's an all metal switch if that helps? 🙂

Hmm, RS Poplock lever only £15... I think we're getting somewhere. Certainly an improvement on £50.

I am mechanically incompetent but that should work with my Magura forks, right?

Or just not bother with the remote?

I can't lock the forks out without it and would like the option to do so - handy for climbing.

I broke the clamp on my magura one about 2 years ago.. The zip ties are still holding up nicely 🙂

Ah sorry didn't realise - with my Rockshox you could just stick a different bit on the top of the fork and lock out manually.

It depends how much cable pull is required, which will be dictated by the angle the lock-out dial on the fork has to move (90 degrees on the Rockshox by the looks of it) and the diameter of the dial.

I've got one in the shed you can have for nowt though if you want to try it. e-mail in profile.

Maybe you can and I'm just being thick, I'm a very bad mechanic 😳

That's very kind - will send you an email.

Edit: sorry, doesn't seem to be in your profile. Do you mind sending me one?

I've got one of those Magura levers in the spares box, but the clamp is broken.
