I thought your skin was waterproof, isn't it quite hard to ingest stuff this way?

Looks like it might be...

PR lotion is proven to help you extend your threshold so you can go harder, for longer.

Sounds to me like you don’t know the history of bicarbonate use in cycling? Traditionally it’s swallowed but it’s very hard on the stomach & can lead to spewing or the sh1ts - if you’re really unlucky……it’s both. Hence, a topical lotion that skips the risk of any GI upset. The science behind it is solid, whether the cream works or not I don’t know.

Nope. Lots of substances can be ingested via the skin. I'm allergic to penicillin. Our dog had an infection and needed antibiotics. Like a massive dimwit I neglected to check what type of antibiotic he was on, and just broke a tablet into his food. I had a pretty decent reaction to the amoxicillin I had given him simply from touching the tablet for a few seconds.

It's why the bad guys wear gloves when smearing nerve agent on door handles etc.

Is the basic hypothesis of the academic studies of the product/method (bicarb has benefits and side effects, that can be bypassed). Seems plausible.

just to add to the knowledge base after 25 years in the cosmetic ingredients business, yes absolutely topical (skin applied) lotions can have systemic effects, both desired and undesired. And it's not only dependant on the active being skin permeable, there are some solvents that will happily carry the active through the skin and into the bloodstream (eg: DMSO is a common one in pharma topicals)

To the question - yes, bicarb does have an effect, that's pretty well kown. Can you get bicarb through the skin and into the system that way - this might be the 'snakeoil' bit but the website says
<h2 class="m0 rel medium hr hr--bottom">Unlocking Bicarb</h2>
Powered by InnerEdge™ technology PR Lotion unlocks bicarb by delivering it directly to the working muscles via the skin, making it effective and practical for athletes to use in sport for the first-time.

which might be a TM for the actual delivery method but I suspect is just a TM for something that gives you 'the edge' from inside.

I'd happily look at the ingredient list which must by law be on the packaging or on a leaflet attached with it.

I dunno about this thing, but lots of drugs are administered transdermally:
pain relief buprenorphine
female hormones
male hormones
ibuprofen gel
local anaesthetics.

And also, PR means sticking your finger up someone's bum'ole, FYI.

Bicarb is one of 5 sports performance aids that is recommended as effective and safe for athletes by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Both performance-enhancing and not the same time! Very effective at passing drug screening I'm sure!

I dunno about this thing, but lots of drugs are administered transdermally:

With research to prove it. Small study but research found no evidence for PR lotion to improve blood buffering capacity or enhance exercise performance.

These values are statistically different (p<0.05), even in a small number (4) of subjects

Statistically different?! That is not, but is surely trying to sound like, statistically significant, which their results are clearly not. Complete jargon.

When buying placebo tables, make sure you go for the large ones.

Not being in the flush of youth its taking me longer to recover these days, so i'll give it a try, even if its a placebo and I feel better its a win... other than that it might be good for cleaning the oven?
