Just got a HTC Desire S- very clever bit of kit. Downloaded Endomondo but I guess what I'm looking for is just a general tracker- something that records where I've been and can replay it, for those rides when I have no clue where I am. Endomondo seems to be able to do that just by recording a workout but isn't too smooth on the syncing from what I can see, any simpler trackers out there?
My Track is the best app for that sort of thing
Ah, that looks the very dab, thanks!
Or if not, runkeeper is quite nice too but I like my track's ability to upload to googlemaps and google docs.
My Trails is good. Viewranger too - the latest beta is a great upgrade from the current release, as well. And the Viewranger online route builder is excellent. Well worth paying the 2 quid for the app.
I've been using SportsTracker on a Nokia for the past month and I really like it. Plots out where you've been, how high you've climbed, distance, time etc and can also upload it to the web (I haven't done that bit though). You can collect data from a bluetooth HRM and combine that. It even geotagged a few pics I took whilst doing the GAP ride the other week. I posted a thread on it on here about a month ago and from some of the replies, I gather it's a Nokia app but coming out for other phones soon.
That said, I mainly use the distance/elapsed time data. I only used the tracking feature when I was showing a friend one of the routes so that he could do it too.
(It's free too)
another vote for My Tracks, on android phones it's by far the best/simplest for what you require. also yes, uploading to google maps is a great feature...
i like cyclemeter, i think it works on android but you might want to check before spending your £1.79! i have not used my garmin for ages.
Another vote for Google My Tracks here.
+1 for google mytracks
MyTracks is straightforward and uploads direct to Google Maps but doesn't have all the other bells and whistles that Endomondo and SportyPal have - both of these will export routes to .gpx files that you can then import into Google Maps or Google Earth.
I've used all 3 and don't really find MyTracks any more accurate than the others - as long as you have GPS set up right on your phone they should all be as accurate as each other. You can also get an app called (IIRC) Tracker Booster that can help if your phone's GPS is a bit flaky.
FWIW I use SportyPal now more than the others.
slainte 🙂 rob
