[Closed] Small thorn holes in tubeless tyre.

[#11116692]

I decided to give my tubeless a long-overdue overhaul.

Removed both Hans Damps from Stan's rims. Removed worn rim tape, cleaned rims spotless and re-taped. Removed the worst of the old sealant from tyres, noticed 2 thorns in one of the tyres. Pushed them out from the inside, forgot about it.

Tonight I reseated one tyre with soapy water and going hell for leather with a hand pump. Beautiful, all popped into place, will remove valve core and insert sealant later.

Same with second tyre, only half way through did I notice air coming out of the two tiny holes I'd forgotten about. F*CK.

What are my options here? I could remove the tyre again and try to patch the holes but I don't have any kind of repair kit at all and the tyres were hard work to remove/replace. If I carry on and inject the sealant, would that do? The second tyre hasn't seated properly yet (can't achieve enough pressure because of the holes).

I wish I'd just left the thorns in...

Just chuck some sealant in there. It's what it is there for.

Thanks both. Looked up some old threads where people were suggesting repairs but that seemed to be for larger holes/tears.

Had a Magic Mary once like that. Sealant wouldn't seal it. Ended up using an anchovie.

Not sure I'd get an anchovy into either hole even if I had one. Not without making the holes a lot bigger. Can barely see one of them.

Sealant should do it, but it needs to be seated for the sealant to work really. You might get away with giving the non-pumped up tyre a good spin, but if it were me, I'd order a patch kit and patch it, or a new tyre! (Or an anchovy)

Adding sealant (mixed a bit thicker) did the trick, allowing me to pump to full pressure and seat the beads, no air is escaping from either thorn hole. I don't expect either tyre to stay up overnight but I'll just add some thinner sealant tomorrow and hopefully jobs a good un. Cheers.
