Hi guy's, currently running xt mech's & shifters on my commencal, i'd quite like a lighter chainset to match. As i have xt everything else, i'd quite like xt cranks but with merlins prices there is a £30 price difference between the two!
I've heard people say slx is just as good if not better than xt in terms of chainsets, really not sure what to get!
Are the only differences the slight weight increase with slx and different crank arms?

Hugh

I haven't tried the SLX but I do find that generally XT is lighter and lasts longer, IMHO.

No doubt someone will contradict me, FWIW I will be buying XT quite soon. 🙂

An SLX chainset is the same weight as an M760 (previous generation) XT chainset at least the one's I weighted were. Not weighed a M770 so not sure on that difference.

As an aside asthetically the SLX looks nicer in my opinion, I have run M760, M770 and the SLX and there is no noticeable difference between them.

slx doubles have steel pedal threads - depending how/where you ride, that might be the major difference
