Need to replace the 36T ring on an slx 9spd double, does it have to be the double specific ring ?
I usually get Deore 36t, doesn't have to be double sepcific, no.
Thanks, Deore was my plan ๐
Deore on mine as well. Not as much heavier as you'd expect, and they last forever.
How do you get on with the 36 rather than the 'normal' 32, not too much of a jump from the little ring? I'm a thinkin of buying an SLX double. Also, can you fit a big ring on instead of the bash if you end up needing it like if you need to use the bike on the road for a holiday or something?
hardly ever use the 22 ring but when I do it shifts fine (sram x9 triggers, slx double front mech) - don't know if the bash can be replaced with a larger ring though, never tried.....
I find that the 36T ring is just a little bit too much at times and have to drop into the granny ring. Will relace with a 32T when it wears out.
I've replaced my 36/22 with 34/24 and find it much more useable on my local trails. I found it too big a jump from 36 down to 22, spin out on tarmac more now but that's an acceptable compromise for me.
If you replace the bash with a third ring, you would need a suitable front mech....you may have a double-specific one at present.

Hmm maybe I'll just get the triple and put the bash instead of the big ring then.
PaulID - I'm currently just using a normal 3 ring mech with a triple crankset with a bash ring instead of the outer ring and not shifting past the 32 ring.
I fond the whole big ring little ring thing great and not too much of a jump - its not like its a surprise.

SLX double has inserts for the pedals rather than threaded cranks, makes them a bit stronger if you ride heavy or do a bit of jumpy-pumpy ๐
You can run the double with your existing 'standard' front mech, I only got the SLX double front mech because I was building from scratch.....
