As above really- do SLX cassettes come with the alloy carrier like XTs, so they won't mash up my Pro IIs?

yes, I ordered one last week for that very reason. Ribble, £36.

yes and no.

they have a carrier, but it is for less of the sprockets.

Should be fine on pro2, I find it is the larger sprockets that have the torque to eat the freehub, and they are the ones on a spider.

As above, 1/2 carrier not full - I used on my Pro3, slight traces of burring after 12 months but by no means mashed and didn't affect cassette removal.

If you'd consider SRAM then at least PG980 also has a simialar 3 biggest type carrier and virtually the same weight as SLX (pg990 i think has 5 like XT). Not sure what the 10spd SRAMs are like though

The small teeth will still rip up the freehub, but then XT does that as well.

If you've got an old XT cassette, keep the lockring, quite a bit of the weight difference between SLX and XT is in the ring surprisingly.

If its 10spd as well, there is virtually no weight difference between the SLX & XT cassettes. For some reason all Shimano 10spd cassettes are boat anchors.
