Just riding down a road hill, loud bang and the feeling of a flat... wasn't untilI stopped I realised the rim had blown off.

how much air pressure?? or were these older rim brake rims perhaps?

seen that happen years ago, when V brakes were the norm.

I had that happen to me on a front wheel at 20+mph once, really loud bang followed by the noise of 18 inches of flailing aluminium.
Aren't disc brakes great 😀

Cleaned the rim up and looking at some of the spoke holes there are fracture lines around 7 or 8 of them. (Not the best images with my point and click camera )
