Hey all
I’ve want to swap tyres on my XC bike more often. Being tubeless it’s a pain in the ass to have to muck out the sealant, dispose of it and then do another so I have a cunning plan…… 😉
I want to buy an extra-light race inner tube with removable valve core and fill it with sealant, have done this before anyway before I went to tubeless proper. This means I can easily swap tyres easier with a lot less faff.
Other than a bit of extra weight, this seems a good idea to me. I figure it should seal pinch flats (if I get them) and anything else like a tubeless would but allow me to change tyres when I want.
Any down sides to this?
Ps. I’m not buying slimes, they weight almost 700g which is basically another tyre!
Would the talc inside the tube not cause the sealant to clog up?
If you are only relying on tubeless sealant to handle small punctures then your idea should work. However you'll not benefit from lower tyre pressures/increased grip as the slime idea won't handle snakebite punctures very well.
Unhook one side of the tyre, so you can syringe out the sealant that pools at the bottom, keep that in a jug and use it to fill up the next tyre, topped up with some fresh.
Seems to work well here. Might be a bit dirty, but have had no probs....
@kayla1 never though of that but seemed fine when I did it years ago. Just never asked anyone about the cons in the past.
@scotroutes, ok. That’s an interesting one to think about. I suppose if I carry some repair kit with me at least if it does happen and the sealant can’t save it I can patch it to get home.
Just reuse the old sealant as susepic says. I’m always changing tyres and do this every time.
I just swap the sealant into the new tyre and top up if needed. Been testing wheels and tyres A LOT in the last three weeks so have got it down to a fine art. It's always good when the seat with just the track pump too

I’m gonna start with reusing sealant. Makes the most sense to be honest.
Or get a couple of spare sets of wheels 😉
