my fox vanillas have developed a slight knock which occurs during rebound.
made worse by slower rebound speed.
initial search suggests possibly too little oil, or a deep-in clip that holds a spring in place.
will of course try a drop of oil but no leeks to be seen.
any clues?

I have that too:
2 things: add heatshrink tubing on the (Left side) spring to stop it hitting lower's inner walls. Cut down inner tube might do too. This was a big improvement. Lots of posts on this on the interweb.
Second problem is when you compress or rebound, its sounds as if there is few mm gap at spring top. Might try some spacer changes or a washer.
