[Closed] SkS chromplastics - how long should they last?

Bought some for my commuter/cross bike march last year.

Now the rivets holding the bracket to the plastic guard have sheared off.

Is just over a years use acceptable for the hammering they get during the winter? Anyone know if they are guaranteed? anyone know if you can just buy the rear guard separately?

Maybe contact wiggle and see what they say?

on my road commuter I'd expect a couple of years. If my CX last 12months (6months so far) I'll be happy. £35 aren't they? Pretty sure I got mine a bit cheaper, similar price to a tyre which certainly don't last a year IME.

if the rivet has gone can't you just re-rivet them? mine normally break on the shoulder of the fitting, between the guard and the stay bolt.

Dunno how long they should last, but the Bluemels plastic mudguards on my 1932 Sunbeam are still good, so 80 years?

8 years and still going strong on my touring bike. It is a bike that has been used in all weathers and even off road.

The thing that kills them for me is when I leave the bike locked up places and other folk knock them about getting their bikes in/out the racks.

Mine did 12 months and started to fall apart. I replaced the rivets with bolts. The plastic cracked so I put a splint in with a couple more bolts either side. The aluminium bridge broke so I fashioned another one out of some aluminium plate. They look shite now but are still going afer 5 years.

I replaced the rivets with bolts

is this easy to do? do you need to drill out the old rivets, or will they just pop out from underneath?

What kind of bolts? assume you need something with a relatively flat head to prevent tire rub?
