Well apparently not any more judging by the number of videos i've seen of pro type free riders skidding a lot and i'm not just talking about power slides here. I'm get the overall impression lots of them are doing it in videos when they aren't actually power sliding to give off the impression that they are. Just wondering when it became acceptable to skid again?

Grave digger.

Que argument regarding the finer points of drifting and skidding versus old blokes that ride 29ers.

I wait with bated breath.

Some lovely gratuitous skidding in there. You can sort of Scandinavian flick pre-skid some stuff for maximum radness if you are cool enough.

Thing is the Scandinavian flick is a technique that was developed, if you could say it's been developed, to get a car pointing a direction around a corner that it doesn't naturally want to go.

It doesn't actually have any relevance in mtbing except to look cool. It's not something you'll ever see for instance on the worldcup downhill circuit. As it doesn't save any time or make you go any quicker.

Skids are ace. I am actively teaching my kids to at the moment so that they pick up more confidence - but very aware where (ie on forest roads, not on singletrack/sensitive bits). Brings back memories...
