Afternoon STWers,
Has anyone used the replacement pike RCT3 seals as sold by many including regular suspension specialists many of us use and who frequent these boards?
Reason being is that Ive just spent 2 hours completing a basic service on my pikes and had HUGE problems getting the stantions back on when using the new seals. They just kept on folding around the lip. In the end fitted a new set of std rockshox seals and the stantions went back on first time. Bit miffed that Ive spent so much on what are supposedly superior seals to the basic ones that come from factory.
Wondered if its just me doing something wrong of if others had the same problem.
Which wiper seals are you talking about?
Racing bros, SKF etc?
Try taking off the springs and dropping them onto the stanchions and then refitting them once you have the seal over the edge of the stanchions.
Thanks guys,
Loco - SKF as far as I know. They differ from the standard in that they dont fit flush, the top 2-3mm is slightly wider than the aperture acting almost like a washer.
Solamanda - Yup tried that after the first set of springs got screwed up. Didnt make any difference ๐
Ho hum, guess they could just have been out of tolerance or part of a duff batch, which of course can happen. Just seemed weird. Also the foam rings were totally different material and almost seemed too soft and were thinner.
The only worrying thing is that I heard a rumour Rockshox are to change their standard seals for the SKF ones....but not sure how true that is.
May have to put it down to experience.
Could you of been sent the wrong size?
TBH we don't fit SKFs in Pikes as I don't think they work, whoever sold you them should maybe consider giving you a refund.
I don't think the standard ones are that bad either.
Thanks Loco - have just worked out where they were from (I bought them a few months ago, so had to dig out the paperwork). They are PUSH rather than SKF so I'll drop TF a line as I believe thats where I sourced them.
Agreed - think I'll stick with standard ones from now on ๐
Thanks for the help.
No experience of the PUSH seals tbh not seen any fitted to Pikes. Although I think they may have had some issues with them of some kind.
I'm sure tf will sort you out though.
