Went out on my old hardtail which is now sort of repurposed for heading out on the abandoned railway line next to us yesterday and now my backside feels like im constantly sitting on two tacks. Nothings changed on the bike but I've not been out for a good few months due to home schooling, work and a general lack of motivation. I've had times where ive not been out for long periods before but ive never had this sort of pain either I also didn't have any padded shorts on but this normally doesn't matter that much maybe a bit numb for a few hours once i get back but that's it. I've put on maybe 4Lbs over lockdown so Its not that ive changed weight or shape either.

Any ideas?

Your cycling hymen had repaired itself. If I've had a few months off the bike I am a little delicate down under for a day or two afterwards, get back out there as soon as they stop hurting.

Butt cream really helps. I do regular 5 hour rides and also longish turbo rides. Definitely notice I’m sore underneath if I haven’t used my chamois cream.
Currently on Muck Off cream.

As far as I know pain in sit bones = OK and you get used to it. Numbness or pain down da middle = not OK at all and don't try and 'get used' to that. For me a big wide saddle with massive cutout gave me slightly more of the first pain (which has now gone away) but a LOT less of the second so that was all good. Best of luck!

I always wear padded shorts after a long spell off the bike, I've lost definition and put a few pounds on over the winter, more so than ever before, I think a lot of people are in the same boat. I've been telling myself its time to get in shape since the new year, its the muscle definition loss that causes it in my case but it doesn't take me long to sort out once the motivation and nice weather kicks in, but I've been injured and a proper lazy git for the past 6 months.

Cheers for the replies, I think its just not being used to it anymore thats the problem. It was two days ago and they are still sore although slowly getting better it just means that my good intentions now that ive finally got back on the bike again are put on hold until its better. Wasnt numb this time just the sit bones that are giving me trouble.

thanks again

You've probably bruised the tissues on your sit bones, not helped by a lack of riding - they'll recover in time
