sadexpunk- how did/do you find the j bars?
Considering them or loop bars after listening/watching tazzy getting on with his- would they be more comfortable for a bit of road work than flat bars?

not sure about the road work, but i love them for normal riding. far prefer them to risers. sposed to be getting another set for my moots, but the seller hasnt replied for ages now, so theyre maybe out the window now.

*thanks to john climber by the way for hosting my pic, thought id be fine with picasa. looks like i mebbes need a flickr account :-)*

Wonderful to see so many Swift pics and nice comments on them, really glad people are pleased with them.

It is interesting to see so many with the original forks. I found them just too tall.
Aren't the newer ones 470mm rather than 490mm, or something like that?

The original rigid forks were 485mm long, the new ones are 470. If you want to know which your frame has you can either measure them, or if the frame has s-bend chainstays then they are 470. The 485 was chosen so that first generation suspension forks could be retrofitted without having a detrimental effect on handling. This also meant that under heavier and/or harder riders they would flex quite a bit, some people like it, some don't. It's pretty hard to design something that everyone from 50kg to 120kg will like. The shorter forks flex less, due partly to their length, and also because they have slightly thicker walls. Current longer offset suspension forks negate the need to change the head angle in order to accommodate the suspension fork, and reduces the front end height a little.

I also have some thick walled 485mm forks in production for the big guys on older frames should they need/want them.

So would mine be straight chainstays then?

[img] [/img]

eg if I get some rigids, it'd be looking at the 485 size?

Clubber - yes and kind of. The 470mm forks also have a little less offset so it pretty much balances the effect of the shorter fork on steering response. If you were to use the 470mm rigid fork then that would help with the bar height trouble you have.

There are 50 orange ones out there somewhere!

Ta. My bars are actually ok now - just took a bit of careful component choices.

Matt

Yes, still putting in the miles round Thetford. Sometimes I get bored and spend time on my crosser exploring trails and bridleways further afield but if I need a singletrack fix it is back to the old stuff!

Hi John, I revisted thetford for the first time in about 2 years(since I did that 50 miler with you) a few months back, managed to rediscover some of the old trails over the Brandon side and had a great time.
would be good to hook up with you again one weekend if you dont mind.

Matt

...How do the Singular forks (steel?) compare to carbon rigids ? Anyone ?

Better IMO. I have the longer fork version and it sucks up whatever you throw at it. Visible flex, but in a good way.

Crikey. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Cost or due to a few failures?

Sam, shame about that was after one. Really liked the look of the Nevi built frames. Personally I would prefer a uk built Ti frame but I know that probably just a dream.

This is my SS Orange Swift when I built up after I got it but since then I have changed some of the seatpost to Thomson silver post and turned the handle bar stem upside down.

Just been out with Andy Mac taking pictures for What Mountain Bike's local trails feature. I took my Ginger (geared) Swift for the monster climb up Green Lowther and my mate Gordon took his SS Swift on a just as monstrous ride on Scawd Law and others....

So Sam; you might owe me a pint or two for all the 'non-niche' mag pages covered with Singular bikes...

Clink, when they were right they were very nice, getting to that point wasn't always as straightforward as it should have been. I am looking for alternatives, unlikely to be UK as I don't know of anyone (other than Robin Mather?) building in Ti here.

Bangin, thanks for that, will be more than happy to oblige. If you happen to know which issue it's in I'd love to see it - afraid I'm not a regular reader...

Thanks takisawa2 as I forgot the way to post link to the pic. Now it's back. Some more pics.

I turn the handle bar stem upside down to make more compliant when going up hill. Also the seatpost is inline rather than lay back and with Ergo grip.

The 1st two pictures from this wreckage and pedalhead are really working for me! Together with seeing them flying around at Bonty 24/12 at the weekend and planning an xc bike purchase.
Would love to try one. Any rigid SS swifts around South Dartmoor?

As they have a lot in common, I'm almost tempted to sneak my Gryphon in here too, (but then it'll maybe start to de-rail into a Singular Love-in / owners club thread and that'd be a bit rude to Ton).

pretty sure they're designed to buy with a bit of noshing you can adjust any air fork just by extending the top out stack with a spacer.

IIRC you can adjust the Reba's between 100 & 120mm.

Ran my 1st Swift with 100mm Minutes and it was spot on.

If you sell the Reba's Ton you know where i am ๐Ÿ˜‰
