Just building up a singlespeed 29er. Frame has a ecentric BB,but the old 9speed chain is still too tight or slack depending on length. Can I fit a half link to the chain, or should I buy a new one. If I buy a new half link bmx type will it fit my 32T chain ring?

Shame your EBB isn't up to the job...

1/8" or 3/32" chains will all work if you're using a 9-speed (5/64") chainring and cog.

Thanks, EBB is an ugly lump of aluminium fitted to a mongoose sarabosa frame. My resolve not to buy anything new for the build is broken, off to boost the proffits of LBS although none seem to do rim tapes for a 29er - could be another use for those old inner tubes?

i have just put together a bike with an EBB and there was loads of throw to allow the chain to tighten.

are you moving the EBB to allow for the shortest chain length, fitting the chain and then moving the EBB to tighten it. Cant believe this wouldnt work.

agree with giantjason, most EBB's have more than one complete links worth of movement in them anyway.

Yup, much faffage and swearing in the shed last night. New chain is nearly a tenner!
