[#3839007]

Im looking for a super simple urban assualt commuting tool. I'd like a cyclocross as I could then take advantage of a few fields/paths that are unsuitable for my current commuter.
I don't want gears.
I don't really want a 'do it all' geared bike that is able to be run as single speed.
I'd really prefer a s/s specific frameset. Steel would be ideal.

What would your choice be?
I like the Genesis Day 1 but its not quite stoking the fire in the looks dept.

The Genesis is a very nice bike though, I had a great time riding mine till I hurt my knees. I should have just eased off the mileages and the hills till I toughened up but instead I chickened out and sold it 🙁

I had pimped mine a bit with new brakes, a White Ind. freewheel, new cranks, etc. etc.

That All City sizes up big AFAIK.

TBH, you could just as easily build yourself a Pompino (or Pompetamine for discs) for what you've described. Lots cheaper than the ACNB (though loads of people do rave about it).

Otherwise, look out a second hand Tricross Single or Felt Breed. Or a Genesis Day One. In fact, Genesis do one of those with discs now.

EDIT: or a Traitor Crusade, or a Singular Kite (which is what I'm lusting after this week).

Or get an old road bike and run it as a SSCX like I did:

I have a tricross that I pile around on off road - which is great fun -but I second the on-one shout. I am on a pomp for my commute to work. Great value imo esp if you can get it on the old bike to work or simialr company scheme 🙂

I too like the Pomp. had a Pometamine before, was ghastly heavy but looked good.
Bit fed up of seeing 'yorkshire' or 'leeds' plastered over them though..
Fickle? Me?
