[#7636921]

Just gone from a double and bash to a single ring on my mega tr. I was using a blackspire stinger with the double and bash so have replaced that with a single spacer on the drive side of the bb. The chainline seems a bit off so im wondering if its better just to get rid of the spacer?

you'll have to put it on the other side of the BB if you do.

Normally just move one spacer to the other side and leave the other one but if its better without any on one side then why not? There's enough variety in frames, chainsets and rings for there not to be one right answer for all

Or keep the BB spacers where they need to be to have cranks centred, and use spacers* to move the chainring over to get decent chainline.

*assuming it's normal chainring on spider and not an integrated spider-ring jobbie?

Why would i need to put it on the other side? Will the bb cups thread into the frame properly without any spacers?

The cups will but the cranks may not tighten onto each other properly, in the case of shimano the tensioner cap may not tighten the driveside onto the non driveside but just bottom out onto the driveside spindle. Kinda hard to explain

Driveside cup has longer thread than non driveside cup so you can move 1 spacer across to non driveside to adjust chainline but be aware you will have less thread engagement between non driveside cup and frame's bb

Moved the spacer to the non drive side and it seems better. Just got to get out on it now and tweak the gears a bit. All seems pretty good though.
