As the title says, does it matter? Have got a velosolo single fitted at moment and when i fitted it i flipped it over so the chainring bolts that came off the chainset would fit. This means the bolts aren't sitting in the recess as thats facing the spider. Is that a problem?

I have a chainring on my commuter bike that has very definitely shark fin profile to the teeth, (by design apparently, I wasn't sure it was right so checked) which wouldn't run the other way round. As long as there's no design issue like that, don't think it matters.

It may rotate a bit if the bolt heads aren't in the recesses is the only thing I can think of.

I run all my n/w chainrings reversed. I've done thousands of miles without issue.
I don't like the garish graphics that most chainrings have.
