Hi peeps,

Simple question for the seasoned builders out there but new one for me so please bear that in mind ๐Ÿ˜›

My XTR shifters came with the outers, which is fine, and as I am running an open system I have all the outers I need, but.... the pack came with what Shimano call 'rubber shields' and I'm not 100% on where exactly to use them.

Now I'm guessing that once the outer goes through a frame stop and the little plastic thing is sticking through the other side of the stop that the large end of the rubber shield just slips upto it and provides a bit more cover, not alot but some I guess?

Its too big to fit into the frame stop and with the cable outer and also there is still a gap between the cable outer and the rubber shield? I don't recall seeing them on peoples frames when they show their pics? So do peeps just not use them at all, as I can't really see a point in them?

Have I missed the point or where to place them?

Cheers all ๐Ÿ˜€

Use them on my road bike, great stuff but I bought a few when cheap.

Now I see it as a rip off personally.

correct

cable end stop once side the frame stop and rubber boot on the other

- i use them, though the price of the cables has rocketed nearly twice the cost they used to be - seem to work well though

Ah thankyou rootes1, just the info I needed ๐Ÿ˜€

Do they just stay put or do they seem to float about etc? As they aren't inside the frame stop, or have you managed to squash yours in?

Thanks again.

Does anyone know how to stop them moving off?

Tiny dot of superglue works for me.

Danger Mouse - I'm fairly certain the instructions show the rubber boots are meant to be fitted.

They shouldn't move as there is a small projecting lug on the end of the plastic ferrule which grips the rubber sleeve.

They stay put without any glue etc on my bike, seem to keep the water out.
