I wasn't going to post this but the standard of some of these "super bikes" seems a bit low so this should fit in ok. 🙂

ti loop bar, eriksen ti post, ti boone cog, ti boone chainring, phil woods hub, custom polished crank.

Ti bolts through out, replace the Ti 1 pedals (with upgraded axles) to Ti3/4s (but a bit pricey)

Alu bolts are lighter, and far cheaper, just replace what you can with alu. Mt Zoom bar, New Ultimate stem, Mt Zoom top cap/bolt, definitely needs a lighter saddle - Speedneedle, SLR C64, Bontrager Affinity RXL if you want to sit on it!

Dirtyrider's Scalpel is probably my favourite here. "Proper" superbike in that aswell as it being damn expensive and light, you are highly unlikely to ever see anything else the same.

the paint was removed to save weight and then clear lacquered over

Is that a pun I'm missing, or did you misspell "chameleon"?

Not wild keen on the purple, but that Scalpel is my fave so far!

@ phil56, what travel forks are you using? Thinking about one of those for myself.

Candodavid: it's an AM9, X44 Headtube and a Columbus backend, slacker and built for a 120mm fork 😀

Great minds, already have Mt Zoom bar and my KCNC stem is lighter than anything else I have found (and very cheap for the weight)

Was looking at Tune Komm-Vor Saddle

Not sure on Ali bolts as most of the places are going to be rotor and calliper bolts.

Love the new for, instant power delivery and not as harsh as I expected, I managed to knock 1.5mins off my PB for my evening 15 miler (and my previous time was me really going for it where this ride felt easy going!)

Here's mine - though it's changed a bit since this pic. An old superbike - when built up in 2007 it was state of the art:

[IMG] [/IMG]

Scott carbon Genius RC Ltd, Pace RC39, XTR (9x3!) drivetrain, Formula R1 brakes (B4SL pictured) with Hope floating rotors, FSA carbon (ISIS!) cranks with AC BB. Olympics on King/Kong, Syntace F99 stem, KCNC flat bars and bar ends (Extralite bar ends pictured), Scott carbon seatpost, SLR saddle. <22lbs including pedals (XTR).

Now c'mon - HT2 came out in 2003, ISIS was as obsolete in 2007 as it is now. I was running 2x9 in 2006 too.

So this Njee character seems to have taken it upon himself to be the arbiter and enforcer of all things superbike...

Haha, I envisaged a comment like that! Would a smiley have helped?! I like looking at nice bikes, I apologise for a few light hearted comments.

You can have one of these:

Ps: Flange is now winning IMO!

It's about the weight with those Isis cranks and American classic bb , was a popular set up back when

Agreed, only recently have outboard bearing cranks got lighter. Even then Heinz Wittman used some obscenely light quirky set up on his 11lb Scale, 300g cranks or sommat.

Which Devinci is that?

I've been pleased with my Dexter but the lure of CF is always there.

seanthesheap - Member

It's the Devinci Atlas Carbon. The forks are 140 travel Fox float 34 fit CTD. The rest of the spec is XX1 groupset, Sram Rise 60 carbon wheels, Avid four piston XO trail brakes, Reverb and mainly Loaded Components bars, stem etc.

A 'superbike' (HORRENDOUS term btw) can be a 'superbike' regardless of how old it is, that Scott Genius up there is amazing considering the spec and weight.

Some of those carbon singlespeed hardtails are winning it for me at the moment though 😀 They're so incredibly fast looking.

Thanks!

As orangeboy says, that crank/BB setup is lighter than any mainstream outboard bearing setup available at the time - and actually still lighter than a current XTR double. I did consider putting some Claviculas on, but decided I really couldn't justify them. Despite the poor reputation of ISIS I find the bearings in that last far longer than the Octalink I had before (and when they wear out you can just replace the bearings), all I read suggests that HT2 is even less durable, so I'm quite happy with my "obsolete" setup.

2x9 is all very well if you don't need a low bottom gear - even with 2x10 I'd lose the bottom gear which I do regularly use.

Ooo, I used to lust after Claviculas! Must admit though they shot themselves in the foot somewhat by introducing a double with a 104mm BCD, so you had to run a 32t inner!

so I'm quite happy with my "obsolete" setup

a) You know I'm only kidding anyway as we've had plenty of 'lightweight FS-offs' over the years and b) not denying it's a great set up, but it wasn't 'cutting edge' 6 years ago.

This was what I was riding in 2007, weight was almost exactly the same as yours:

eh? surely that just depends on what size rings you use on a 2 ring set up.

for example if I had a 44/32/24 and removed the 44 and replaced with say a bash guard, I have lost no Low gears.

Most of it was - and even those cranks were if you were bothered about weight (ignoring Claviculas). The cranks and brakes actually came off the previous build though, so are a bit older.

for example if I had a 44/32/24 and removed the 44 and replaced with say a bash guard, I have lost no Low gears.

In which case you've lost the high gears I also use regularly. I'm assuming nick was using a 42/29 double setup or something very similar.

On the Epic there it was just a 44/32 double. Then became a 42/30, then a 40/28 as I got more rubbish 🙁

The cranks and brakes actually came off the previous build though, so are a bit older.

Which was my sole point! It's still among the lightest FS bikes on here after all!

I hate candodavid.

There was the other guy who posted up asking if he should sell his Covert or his Ibis. Bit like asking should I dump Scarlet Johansson or Rachel Weisz. STW should be ashamed of itself.
