busy building a enduro as a project so thought i would look for inspiration, here are a few pics of the build so far
spec so far:

5th element air rear shock
Fox 36 160 Talas
Hope pro 2 hubs
Hope mono pro brakes
Renthal bars
Sunline V1 stem
XT mech
SLX Cranks
SLX BB
thinking about going for a coil shock as the rear shock is spewing oil from the rebound knob and TF arnt sure if it can be fixed till i sedn it away to them......
any advice/recommendations?
Rob
I'm left a little confused at how it's pimp though?
because its mine and i love it............
TBF it is a nice build.
I think andyhilton was looking for more chris king/thomson/xtr.
well its a project so watch this space
Pimp โ
Ditch the 5th rear shock, get a VanR/RC in there.
Easy lads, it's his pride and joy, why question its 'pimpness'? ๐

ditch the pedals,
the double ring
the horrid red hoses
the horrid red lock on
the lack of front/rear wheel consistancy
the cheap seatpost
the cheap cassette
unless you're going for the anti pimp look then you're all good
5th element airs are rubbish, but old enduros are ace.

Unbelieveable, your bike must be amazing......
It's a Specialized . Therefore it can not be pimp, yours especially not
Great bike, I regret not buying one myself, as I have a 2004 Enduro that's much loved.
Those 5th Element cans were the cause of a lot of warranty issues with Specialized. A lot of owners simply fitted Fox Vanillas or DHX coils instead, which is your best long term course of action. The shocks are a custom size I believe, so it's worth checking with Mojo or TF Tuned to see that they can do.
I'm not sure if you can get a Rockshox Monarch or Vivid to fit, but it's also worth a try.
Still love mine.
I also have a VanR from TFT. Depends what type of feel you want. VanR is amazing for grip and tracking the ground and better on big drops etc giving ~165mm travel. The DHXair is nice for poppy trail riding and standing up pedalling with the PP turned up.
i love forums and the bitching that goes with them ๐
yeah the rear shock will be changed soon as its a pile
i love forums and the bitching that goes with them
not bitching just false advertising
Here is mine then. This is a 2006.

Forgot to mention that mine was a horrible poo brown test bike and I stripped it about a year ago, it was a right pain to do.
We have 3 of them, mine, Katies and Kevins. His is getting stripped and some parts put on a 2010 frame
Heres Katies just after it was built up, its been pimped more since then with wheels, forks, brakes, command post and pedals.
If she gets the all clear from the hospital tommorow then she will be back out on it
Back in 2005 you couldn't get a coil with the right I2I length to fit an Enduro.
Mojo did rework DHX5 coils by putting a spacer in to shorten the stroke to the correct I2I the main problem was the air adjust valve couldn't be used, so to adjust air pressure for ramp up & bottom out you have to remove the shock from the bike.
However, it now being 2012, shocks have moved on lots and you might be able to find the correct size off the shelf.
The coil sprung SX trails had a DHX 3 or 4 with factory fixed air pressure and no valve for adjustment. Only a service centre could make adjustments.
I still have a 2006 frame and shock sitting in my garage. Should probably do something with them.
I understand that you can get a CCDB off the shelf to fit.
i have a fox van R and custom made shock shuttle (to make up for the shorter eye to eye) for my 2006 enduro sitting unused...
eck

My 2005 SX Trail came with a 5th Element coil, and could be adjusted, which was nice, still works too, although I will be upgrading when I can afford it.
IIRC the DHX air pressure wasn't an adjustment as such, just needed some pressure (100-150psi ish) in there to work, there was nowhere else for the oil to go other than to displace the air so efectively it was just a bit of pre-load and spring rate. Whereas the pressure in SPV shocks acted on a valve controlling low speed damping so more pressure = more dmaping, and a bit more preload/spring rate.
LOCO'll correct me if I'm wrong?
The more pressure you put in the firmer the Pro Pedal. The DHX Air shocks were still shite tho no matter what you did to them.

Bit of black magic explanation in there if you click on the different parts etc.
Always liked these bikes, and despite being an 05 I don't think they look dated really!
I've got a bike just like bigyinn's! Only mine is black and has Revelations up front, but it's a brilliant cross country bike.
I'm sure Dirt magazine voted the 05-06 Enduro as the finest 150/160 bike of all time not too long ago? Certainly the angles look right to me and the industrial aesthetics work well.
I LOVE my 2004 Pro. Just waiting for my RP3 to come back from Loco after a service and tune. Expecting good things from it.
Looks nice mate. Personally I'd replace the bashring for a clear one, ditch the red hoses and add a few red anodized bits instead and change the shock. Love the sunline and renthal combo, I have the same on my chumba.
Here is my 2006 Enduro Expert
