Jaymoid, I run my Charge Cooker 29er fully rigid and it's great for blasting round the woods. Being rigid it keeps you on your toes but also benefits your riding skills no end. I've found it's best run with a big high volume tyre on the front such as a 2.4 Ardent or Chunky Monkey if you need more grip. I've also ditched the front mech and chainrings to run it 1x9 which makes for a fantastic winter bike with loads of mud clearance and little maintenance to worry about.

Yeah - I saw your cooker, looks lovely! What fork do you have? I have thought about running 1x10 but the big ring is very handy for the road bit of the commute.

Curtis, Pace and Genesis SS look great. amplebrew's Jones looks perfect and thanks for that info. Are those custom length ESI grips? Chunky or racer and how did you get hold of them?

Hi Jupiter, yeah the ESI grips are the custom length Jones version from Charlie

The steerer has been trimmed down now, I ended up loosing all the spacers below the stem and now just have a 5mm above.

Genesis Fortitude Race...

Now with orange ESI chunky grips and Hope seatpost clamp as I couldn't stop the supplied quick release from moving...

Is a homemade frame niche enough? Hasn't broken yet...... 🙂

16" chainstays, 69 deg head angle and 72 deg (effective) seat angle. Columbus steel (Zona / cro-mo mix) and fillet brazed. Twin 1/2" diameter tubes for the chainstays to squeeze between 2.3 tyre and chainring with some mud room (regular 73mm bb shell).

A real shame when I bent the original shorter steel forks.
Still my most ridden bike and morphed into a hill climb bike this week.

Does anyone have any cheap steel recommendations please?

Give Sam at Singular a ring, he sells the Swift rigid one sometimes, for about £60 IIRC. Its almost identical to the Niner steel one at £160. (I've had both).

Farticus...that Curtis is bloomin gorgeous.
I'm guessing its just wire-woolled & lacquered...?

Wonder if my SIR.9 would look like that underneath... 🙂

Ooh, didn't realise how bad that pic was. Some lovely bikes on here, especially the Curtis and Cromag. That home made fella makes a lot of sense too. Good effort!

Oh, and get a Buzzard OP, you won't regret it.

There wants to be a bloody good reason, just out of shot, why you have such a handful of brake here - otherwise me an' thee are gonna fall out! 😉

Hello again.

My Curtis XC9 is an unashamed copy if Candodavid's but with 44mm headtube and fatter seat tube to be more dropper-friendly. Sliders are PMW units but with Curtis' own frame units to bring the dropouts more "inside" the frame rather than hanging out the back.

Maximised tyre clearance combined with short back end (16.75") means it'll only just take a 30t chainring on Middleburn RX8s (which it now has) - SS runs bigger but with a Rohloff spider to give a wider chainline.

Single chainring only - no stops for a front mech.

Other than that, standard Curtis fare of 853 main triangle, 725 stays and highly polished before being clear powdercoated.

Bars are Seven custom jobs, 730mm wide and big bend. Aim is to have some comfort when it goes rigid SS for winter duties ... Still getting used to the width of them at the moment.

Binners - go on, you know you want to 😀

@ slimjim78 ...

The Swift has Jones Loop Bars, with a set of ControlTech Terminator plugs fitted to give me a tiny bit more width.

Both the Grypon and Peregrine have On-One Midge bars.

Im trying desperately to pull the trigger on a replacement Soul frame (today!) but even though I cant afford the extra to go for a Solaris build.. I cant help but 'want' one. Ive made my mind up that ill love it more than a Soul, soley based on what ive read of course.

This thread isnt helping.

There is no point in not buying it then, because no matter how much you like the Soul, it isn't the Solaris you are lusting after.

I've spent the last 2 weeks rattling around on my High Latitude. First hardtail i've had, literally in years. It's taking some getting used to, but it's genuinely good fun to ride. It's quite easy to get to it's limits without going breakneck speeds & its pretty simple.

Hopefully it will make me a better rider over winter 🙂

If it's any help, one of my mates got a Solaris recently and isn't really loving it. Finds it a bit unexciting. YMMV of course.

clubber - glad you told me that. Makes me feel happier about finally pulling the trigger on the Soul this avo!

Even Paul @ Cotic agreed with me thats its a pricey affair switching over to 29ers.
I'll wait a bit longer and thrash the Soul. Great frame.
