Cheers, just chucked up a slightly closer pic of them.

Perhaps someone will try the other way round.

Did it last week. A bike with two personalities, hence two different looks from each side. I must admit, I prefer the white over black.

Pics in this thread....

PS. Does anybody have clearance issues with adjusters on Pikes under the downtube if using a very low stack headset? Just need to be sure before I order one.

So how are you all liking the mmmBops? Just been looking at them on CRC at that very tempting price! Would be using it for a mixture of dirt jumping, xc/trail centre and downhill. Pretty sure it'll be fine for the latter two but how about DJ? Will it take the abuse of an unsmooth 17-stoner?

Also what extra stuff do you need for a standard 1-1/8" Pike to fit the head tube?

They are one of the few hardtails that I find genuinely ugly- those dropouts, that headtube- bleurgh!

I saw one of the green ones at the weekend. The colour doesn't look great in photos but is a lot nicer in the flesh.

Surprised how flexible the seat stays are. Only noticed when I was out tonight and suffered a puncture. Dropping the wheel back in the drop-outs and they the whole seatstay/chainstay fabrication moves in and out so easily without the wheel to brace it. I honestly thought I'd broke something 🙁

Weighed mine tonight with one of those hanger type scales. Comes in at a tadge under 28lb's.

In a niceway when you start approaching 30lb for an hardtail thats going to be used for rides in the Peaks etc I think your better off going with a full suss.

If your using it for jumping, short rides and also own a full suss for other duties then fine.

Part of the appeal of hardtails (for me) is a weight advantage over a full suss.

It's not about the weight for me - my heaviest hardtail (BFe) is 7lbs heavier than my lightest full-suss (Epic). In fact my lightest hardtail (Zion) is no lighter than my Epic at the moment.

What do you use the BFe for and would you take it on a long ride over the Epic?

The BFe is a temporary build at the moment but I mainly got it for playing about at trail centres - although so far I've just been riding it for general stuff in the Pentlands where it is of course massive overkill.

For a long day ride the Epic would still be my go-to bike, although I also find I use my Soul on longer runs.

Point is why would you want to ride with a dead lump of weighty metal between your legs hauling it up everywhere? When you can feel nimble, quick, responsive etc with a lighter hardtail that doesn't feel dead and thuddy downhill?

Hardtails rock but I'd rather have a well built Whyte Ti with air forks and high quality wheels than cheap and heavily built hardtail. How often do you folk 'go big' and snap bikes on downhills? 😆

Yes ££ but at the end of the day this is your hobby/weekend time.

Liking mine so far, it does lack a seatpost and saddle which is limiting its usefulness somewhat but it did make my day by havng all the indexing just work miraculously as soon as I fitted the mechs and twiddled the end screws by eye, so clearly it's Meant To Be. Might get it out for a ride tomorrow. No photos as frankly it looks like crap, all overlong cables and hoses and electric tape all over it as I couldn't find my helicopter tape.

Oh, and surprisingly it turns out that a 16 inch Mmmbop with a 130mm fork has the exact same wheelbase as a 17.5 inch Hemlock with a 160mm fork. That's pretty long... Glad I didn't get the 18.

Just (almost) built

Pedals - the only flats I had kicking around the garage 🙂
Cables & hoses? Meh - I might just leave them like that.
Advantage 2.1 - currently running with tubes as I don't have a tubeless kit at home.
Saddle - unsure about this or a Gusset...

16" frame
Talas RLC
XT chainset, mech & shifters
Elixir CR brakes
Syncros rims on Pro2 hubs
Easton 685mm Monkeylite bar / Hope 70mm DH stem
Ragley logo lock-on grips
Joplin with remote

Comes in at 27.5lbs (on my scales - the shop ones would have it sub-27)

Druidh - how have you routed the brake hose seat or chain stay? if chainstay - inside or out?

Chainstay - had to allow for the Join remote cable. Routing is currently a mix of in and out. I would have gone 'out' all the way but I'm not happy with the proximity of the crank.
