Was going to drill my frame but the external one doesn't look too bad.Help me decide.

Just use 3m stick on guides - you make it look pretty neat & waaaay better than risking the drill!

I've done it on both my Kinesis Ti hardtail and on a carbon Cannondale - just plan it out and make the routing neat - if you do it right and get the guides neatly under the top tube, you can make them pretty hard to notice -

You can see the guides on my old Cannondale here (I'd removed the post to sell the bike unfortunately - but you get the idea!)

It's great but the cable attachment on the post, whilst great for keeping the cable still and not rubbing, does prod my leg occasionally.

I've just bought one but not fitted it yet. My frame's got under the top tube cable routing spare since I've gone 1x so I reckon it'll work okay and it'll only be a short bit of outer needed.

I drilled my frame a couple of years back. Nothing untoward has come of it yet.

It ain’t pretty but it’s alright. I haven’t had any problems with my leg catching it. Been on for 4 years but it did recently seize up after a very wet lap of Swinley.

This is mine fitted to my 2011 5

As above it’s not pretty but it works faultlessly

What size do you need. I've a nearly new one to sell for a friend. Was only used on the turbo for a bit in the end.

Here's mine in my old Switchback-

[img] [/img]

Nice and tidy and it just works. It's been in a few other frames since then; this Marino for a bit-

and it's currently in this dark grey Switchback that replaced the red one after I (instantly!) regretted selling it-

I think it did time in that Cube frame in that pic too (with a 31.6mm shim) and it's had the same cable all this time- external routing FTW 🤣

Not the best picture, but you get the idea. It's a lot less faff than an internal one if you need to remove the seat post as the cable pops off at the post end. Can't fault it really.

For my external one I got some of these which clip to my brake hose and route the dropper cable under the top tube. Nice and secure plus no sticky on bits.

The latter photo is without them but it’s all neater with the clips. Brilliant post too, just works.
