i researched a while ago and came to the conclusion that if you want a good job, take it to a professional (often cheaper, and much much less hassle). Its only really worth it if you want a quick and dirty respray for a city bike.

That said, this looks ok (from a distance) and its just a tin of hammerite...

I sprayed bmx's when I was a kid, it was good fun and gave a certain satisfaction.

By the time you've bought all the materials though (maybe 2 cans of colour, 1 lacquer, a wire brush/paint stripper for prep, some sand paper, etc) you might as well get it powder coated.

It'll also look decent and last.

I can spray, and have boxes of stuff to do it with. Just like some inspiration as to colours as I've not tried a bike!

Just the front beam on this bike but done with Plastikote which I've used for load of other things like forks, etc and is pretty hard wearing.

[img] [/img]

1. rub down existing paint with reasonably fine wet/dry - just enough to key, not enough to actually take the old paint off as there's no need
2. clean/degrese thoroughly (I use water then meths)
3. 3+ thin coats of spray paint
4. Clear lacquer if you want (I rarely bother)
