oh dear. how did you crack it? I have an elixir carbon for my BFe build too. Just looking for some forks still. I like the white ones ๐
New frame arrived, first impression is that it looks really well finished, feels very light. I like the anti corrosion paint inside the tubes. Paint/powdercoat just gleams. Very impressed.
Will have it built up by Wednesday and riding wednesday pm in the lakes pics later that day.
Have fun with it tricky I'm still getting used to mine, I'm used to riding my FS so I'm not only learning the bike I am also learning HT riding. Having said that every ride on it is becoming more and more fun.
Dont forget to post pics when it is done.
Can you run a 12mmm rear axle on the BFE?
I-Ache can you please resize those images? I'm not on a lightning connection and it's just a bit boring waiting for them to fully load.

Not without filing out the dropouts. 10mm works fine though.
Thanks Jon,
10mm rear axle on mine, excited to see how it goes.
Peaslakedave - the lever was cracked when I bought it (2nd hand) took a chance on it being ok from the pics but it's a little frayed so think I need to change it, getting carbon splinters isn't fun.
Not sure how to post on here sorry link here anyone help?

You could use one of the azonic stepdown axles.
They weight as much as the average frame though.
tricky, what weight does your build come in at?
Heavy I'd guess will weigh up tmrw
Its got Fox 160, Hope Mono M4's, Mavic rims and Hope hubs, Reverb, Fat Bars E13 bash and X9 /SLX transmission and a chunky stem, just debating new tyres as need something bigger out back.
Like it though feels tough!
I got mine finished with all its proper kit last night. With coil pikes full deore group, Mavic 321 rims and heavy super tacky swamp things and a bit of mud it comes in at 30.5lbs. I'm quite happy with that, I reckon it will go lighter when I put some more summery tyres on it.
I will try and get pics of the end product sometime soon.
Oh and I'm pretty confident my scales are as accurate as they need to be because they gave the same result as the luggage check in scales a couple of weeks ago.
chvck did you used to have a Surge or am I thinking of someone else? If so why did you change and what difference is there between the two bikes?

Put to many red and blue bits on your bike!
Sheepshifter use the forum code on imaheshack, in the box here were u type press image then paste the forum
Code in the pop up that appears
Thinks your right david time to add in a bit more green to match the sliders on the chain device thanks for your help in colour coding my steed.
That's a nice blue. Anyone know of a similar RAL powdercoat colour as the Sovereign will being done soon
Don't post here very often, but I can join in with this one...
The Pikes are probably the best forks I've ever owned, worth the extra weight. Picked up the wheels half price earlier this year and they're awesome! Last time I checked I think it comes in at just below 29lbs now.
Slammed stem and Super Tacky front tyre deal with the handling.
I could do with a smaller front rotor and tidying my break hoses.
Oh, and 99% of the time I ride flats.
I don't usually post here yet if it helps anyone with a build... here goes..[img]

It's a 1x9, Pike Coil U-Turn
Pro2 on Halo Freedom Discs
Juicy 3s
Sram Drivetrain (x7)
Race Face Evolve crankset
Superstar bits and pieces
I use it mainly for short course DH as well as ragging round town.
I reluctantly have a great Bfe for sale if anyone is interested. Immaculate build and almost unused. All the details are here...

Hi First time posting on here . . .
I am not trying to hijack this post, but obviously there is alot of BFe building experience out there!
I am considering building up a new Bfe as a do it all bike and I am looking at components. My ideas so far are:
New Bfe Medium
Fox 36 RC2s @150mm
SLX groupset (double) with brakes
Hope 2 evo's with flow rims
Havoc bar and stem
Probably with Hans Dampf on front and Ardent on rear.
Your experience and opinions would be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Si
I wouldn't go with forks that long personally. Having said that I am yet to try my lyriks on mine but have been thinking about it. If you already have the forks you should consider dropping them down to 140mm. If you are planning to buy new then you should consider 34 floats with travel dropped or 34 TALAS. I like the idea of the 34s as 32mm stanchions are too flexy and 36s seem like overkill.
Personally i think 150mm is fine. I have a very similar set up with 36 Talas forks at 160mm and it rides great (reduce to 130 for longer climbs). I have SLX double with 28/38T Hope hoop wheels on flow rims and Hans Dampf tyres. Bike rides great. The tyres drag a bit but are amazing on descents and for jumping on the DH tracks.
Thanks for the replies.
I've looked at 34s but the jury seems to be out on the CTD system. Also there does not seem to be a huge difference in weight compared to the 36s.
Does TALAS work well? What do the forks feel like in the lower setting? Is it viable for carving tight singletrack?
I can't speak for TALAS specifically but I love travel adjust forks, I find they make my bikes so much more versatile.
I have lyrik dual position air on my FS and drop the travel up most hills. The u-turn on my BFe means that I can blast through rock gardens in the peak one day and take it to the BMX track the next.

The Talas is great. I leave my forks on 160mm most of the time and just take them down to 130 or even 100 on longer climbs mostly just because i can. 130mm on the flat feels far to steep HA for me but it all down to personal pref.
Mojo say that the 2013 34/36 floats cannot be dropped further than 150mm due to new internals. I guess from peoples experience TALAS may be the way forward.
