Hi all.
Random question but should my shock pump show pressure when fitting it to my forks.
When I screw it onto my pike is reads zero pressure even though I've pumped them up. It takes a good few pumps of the pumps to register any pressure.
Pump is genuine rockshox and works fine with my rear shock ?
Any ideas ??
I wonder if the "prongy" bit isn't depressing the valve - is it a screw in one ?
Yes it's a screw on type.
Dead weird as it works fine on my rear shock and my lads forks.
Push the valve in manually, can any air escape?
I have one that has 2 screw in bits - the outer cylinder goes onto the valve and then the inner prong screws "into" that. Is that what yours is like? If so, screw in the inner bit some more
In my experience, yes it should come up to the pressure that's inside the fork. All of my forks/shocks/seat posts do this.
There should be a very short hiss of escaping air (into the sleeve) when you screw it on. No hiss or a long hiss is a problem.
If you pump the forks up, and leave the pump attached for a few hours, does the pressure drop?
Inside the valve on the pump there is a screw you can adjust I think so that it engages better. I had this and I played with this and it seemed to do the trick. I could be talking bollocks however as it was 18months ago but I'm sure that's what I did to sort it.
Had this on pikes. Replace the valve stem. Fixed.
If that's happening just requires you to screw the shock pump on a quarter of a turn
The valve stems are too short, so you can screw all you like it doesn’t compress properly. Just whip one out of an inner tube. You can test it by winding out the core a turn or two, it will register pressure but I wouldn’t trust it long term.
