[#2254662]

it looks rank out there, all the snow is melting

is it going to be a cold gloopy bog?

should I just make a brew and think about riding rather than actually doing it?

Depends where you are. Somewhere like the Surrey hills will be a bog, north Wales should be fine.

I wish I had the option to ride today 🙁

I'm staying in today.

But to be fair, i'm in the late stages of recovering from a broken leg/knee so I dont wanna come off and do it more damage!

Just had a ride around north downs, very hard going, the snow is melting so water logged and heavy and very sticky, still good fun and i'm very impressed with how the zesty with bonty mud x's performed. Just out of interest, what do you think is better in the snow xc, full sus or ht?

Blue sky in Devon but ice was a bit of a pain on some descents on the Moor 🙁

one of the shock bolts was not really tight, so I am guessing that alloy top hat has been turning and thus has worn, creating the play.

just got back

went up to the shooting cabin in hayfield, bit of a slog getting there, and I thought it was just going to be a walk pushing the bike, rather than a ride, but it wasn't too deep up on the top path

had to take it really steady, the dry snow was fine, but the slush was lethal

jools, we must have just missed you.
We did Kinder Rd, up the cobbles then up to Shooting Cabins and made the mistake of coming down Middle Moor (we'd done the 20 Trees descent yesterday, I foolishly assumed that Middle Moor would be the same state of "mostly rideable" - how wrong can you get!)

Over to Blackshaw Farm then back down to Hayfield. Really strange weather, it was gorgeous over Kinder way then just grey and misty over Hayfield way.

Icy, but no mud. No grip either come to that, but still a fab ride.

Rear wheel traction was tricky to find today due to the combination of frost and smears of mud. But the going was reasonably firm and sliding around going downhill was pretty fun. I thought I had a flat rear tyre at one point, it was squirming around so much.

Here's a tip: the rough and ready downhill trails give more grip than smooth ones. Pick trails carefully. Go!

Do it!

Been out for a quick ride round local woods and it was ace. All the snow was rock hard but still quite a bit of grip.
